From Womens' Tennis To Mens' Baseball (If ya Wanna Call It That)...... - A Pirate Aground In The City - pilot's Blog - Victoria Advocate

Geez, I try to keep a positive and stiff upper lip when it comes to my beloved Astros. I'm usually quick to attempt to set my fatal vision dad straight, when I go home and he starts in on me with his diatribe about needing pitching.......yada, yada.......
The boys of summer are making it hard to faithfully toggle over to FSN nightly, when there are things like lawn bowling from New Zealand I am missing over on the Neon(nothing else on) Channel.... nah, it's not really that bad. But the Lastros better get it together soon if they want this boy to not bail for better diamond action. I love baseball/softball diamond sports. One of the things I missed by being in Houston was watching my two nieces Devin and Danielle, play fast-pitch ball in Victoria high school ball. Both were acclaimed ballplayers, and both probably could have parlayed their talents into college scholarships. At least I had the Adviocate to follow their exploits........The one game/tournament I did get to take in down in El Campo was an eye opener to me. After many years of baseball in school, and many more as a young urban professional.....doing the Walter Mitty thing on the softball fields up here three or four nights a week, it was quite sobering to see my niece and her team in action. I dare say I couldn't have put a bat on most of their pitches, and the level of skill and execution I saw in that bunch of sixteen and seventeen year old girls, makes me wonder at times like this when my pro home team is wallowing in the dumper/cellar, why they don't head down to some of the local girls' fastpitch tournaments with their scouts.........it's certainly a more entertaining level of play than I have been seeing from the big bucks boys......and you never know they might just find some history in the making!
