Solar power, hybrid cars, ethanol: these are ideas that years ago seemed far-fetched and are now becoming mainstream. State governments are encouraging the use of such sources with tax breaks for those who install them and companies who produce them are appearing everywhere. What used to be an extremely expensive venture is becoming less so as more people participate.
