It really is a pain in the neck -- for me is's a pain lower down -- continously reading that if I oppose Obama for president I must be a racist. The editorial page cartoon this morning, 29 August, is the latest in this tirade.
I oppose Obama for several reasons, NONE of which has anything to do with the color of his skin. He's never done anything except get himself elected from Chicago. He has never sponsored significant legislation that has been enacted into law. He is, at best, a socialist, at worst a marxist, who will propose budgets that will cause massive tax increases. He has no experience in international affairs and has no idea how to use the military in the best interests of the United States. Of course, the present president doesn't have a clue either, but that's another reason we don't need Obama. After sixteen years of presidents who were/are clueless in using the military, we need someone who does understand what it means to send the armed forces into harms way.
I want what and who is best for the country, and Obama isn't it. If you still want to call me a racist, go ahead. I've been called worse. You can call me anything you want as long as you don't call me late for dinner.

Aug 29, 2008 at 01:08 PM : To my way of thinking,...

To my way of thinking, a socialist believes that government should intervene in people's lives to the extent that private property ownership is emperiled. He believes that government should try to equalize the distribution of wealth in a society through taxes and give-aways. The marxist also believes these things but believes they should be brought about by class struggles and revolution. Socialests are willing to put up with various forms of market socialism in which government controls prices and supply but the factories, farms and retail businesses are privately owned. Marxists insist that the government owns the means of production, transportation and distrubution.
Because Obama only says he wants change but doesn't specify what those chages are, I don't know where he stands on any of this, but, since he's a democrat, I choose to believe that at the very best he is a socialist. I don't know if he advocates class warfare and revolution so I don't know if he's a marxist or not. He's playing his cards very close to his vest. I will admit that I fear his vision of and for America.

The WayWardwind, give up on your socialist Marxist wet dream. If you really want to see socialism, then go to Eastern Europe I won’t called you anything but your last sentence made me questioned your motive. All I am hearing from you and others is fear fear fear fear.

The cartoon is speaking the turth anyway, I hear comments at work and on the streets. Comments like "I don't want that d@mn N___R as President." The sword cuts both ways.

Oh, if this was not such a serious issue it would make me laugh. I contend the ad itself is racist. I also contend that racism is always going to be with us. There is always going to be that 2-5% of the population that is going to embarrass the rest of the population. Racist actions against all races occur in this country; not just blacks. Native Americans, Native Hawaiians Americans , White European Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, Black Americans, Middle Eastern Americans, and others are often threatened, beaten, cheated, called names, and worst. Also, I contend that some individuals want to use the "race card" to dismiss the opposing opinions of others, so they do not have to address them in a logical manner.
And some of the comments are rather disturbing.
Ragman, I can think of many individuals I would consider worst than a racist; for example rapist, child molesters, spouse abusers, elderly abusers, false prophets and gang members. Who is going to define which war is needless. In the American Revolution less than 40% of the population supported the war. We could have lived under the rule of the King of England. In World War II, we could have negotiated a peace or even surrendered to Japan, instead of declaring war.
