So I was wondering, with all this praise that the late Heath Ledger is receiving for his turn as the Clown Prince of Crime in The Dark Knight, can he be the catalyst for a comic book movie earning an Oscar? And I mean a serious Oscar, an acting one. I mean I don’t want to see best sound FX or best editing or stuff like that. What I want to see is a best acting or best supporting actor nod. I will admit, no comic book movie, as entertaining as they have been, has had performance on an Oscar level.
Could Ledger’s Joker be it?
I will admit I was one of those people who was skeptical of the choice to have Ledger as the Joker. To me the Joker was two people, Jack Nicholson in Burton’s 1989 Batman and Mark Hamil’s voice acting turn as the Joker in the animated DC Comics universe.
My fears were smoothed over after seeing the first couple shots of Ledger in full Joker mode.
Wow.
The man definitely had the look.
Then came the first teaser, a snippet of dialog...
