Surlee I actually agree with a couple of your points, but here is my take on the situation. You do “NOT” have to sign a ticket in order for it’s service to be perfected. You're not going to avoid the ticket just because you didn't sign an agreement to appear. You have to appear anyway.
I agree the guy should have just signed the damned thing. He would have most likely won in traffic court in the first place. All that being said there was no need for the Officer to pull the guy out of his SUV and play macho que muy macho in front of his pregnant wife. The officer SHOULD have just given him the ticket and that would have been that signed or unsigned.
