Hello Nimhilach,
You sound like you are in pretty good shape due to your hard work, except for that huge debt. BUT with the fantastic education you got from it, it should be no problem to wisely save more money and pay it off.
I realize that "pretty good shape" is relative. Yet it's difficult to listen to people complain when they have a computer to type on, electricity to boot, and time to type.
I think that some people look at us "poor" Americans and think we're greedy. We got a lot, and only want more. (I put my hand up on that one too, as far as being excessive with materials.)
