If you want to see what poor people look like, spend a day in Mexico. It's just a 4-5 hour drive, and you don't even have to cross the international bridge. Venture a little farther and you'll run into plenty of poverty.
I for one am glad to hear the Democrats call for more taxes on the wealthy. It's high time rich folks like Edwards, Kennedy and Gore ponied up to help all the little people they are so concerned about.
