Both sides have acknowledged that we have an illegal immigration problem. How could they not? The Federation for Immigration Reform estimates it costs the American taxpayers $12B a year to provide elementary and secondary educations to illegal immigrant children and another $17B to provide the same for "anchor babies." And while federal law *requires* hospitals and clinics to treat illegal immigrants without charge, Medicaid earmarks another $1B per year to reimburse hospitals and doctors for their services - an amount ALL hospital staff and administrators say is far below their actual costs. An estimated 3000-8000 illegals cross our southern border EVERY DAY - far more than enter our country through legal channels.
