Oh pshaw! I posted my answers to this illegal immigration problem in response to Mike's blog entry of a few days ago. Be-bop over there 'n read it if you've a mind to. I'm not gonna type all that folderol again.
In short though, I agree with Mike. (dammit!) *We* have a lot of blame in this problem because we (the US gov't) continue to allow our homegrown industries - and even our citizens - to flaunt the laws against employing illegal immigrants by levying punitive fines that are hardly more inconvenient than swatting a fly against those very few that are caught blatantly doing so. And why wouldn't they? Industry can realize millions in profits from cheap, unbenefitted workers and, in the unlikely event they ARE caught, be fined a small percentage of their take. It's gotta stop and it's only gonna stop if the fines are larger than the profits and repeat offenders have their businesses - or homes - seized and sold at public auction.
Shut off the DEMAND for them and the SUPPLY...
