Mike Austin, formerly Captain Boots' Pilot, is an umpteenth-generation Native Texan whose family has lived under all six flags. He was born during the dog days of summer in 1950 on the banks of the Sabine River and Adams Bayou, with both feet in Texas but with the smell of Louisiana boudin and gumbo in the air. He is the father of two beautiful boys who obviously resemble their mom. His free time these days is spent with his family, mountain biking daily, taking in a good rock concert from time to time, and heading for the slopes when they are covered with snow.
His first real job, after delivering the TV Guide, Grit newspaper, bagging groceries, and decking on a shrimp boat, was as captain of a beat-up old crew boat, with the privilege hauling one Captain Boots from beach to barge and shell reef to shell reef for two exciting years. Not a bad gig for an 18-year-old bay rat trying to figure out what he wants to be if he grows up. Over the years, he has worn a lot of different hats...
