About Riverboat
I'm not going to sugar-coat myself. I'm a 51-year old smartass who's sick and tired of a lot of things:
1. I hate rap music and everybody connected with the industry. I hate the camp followers and the shaved-head, knuckle-dragging, pants-pinching, underwear-showing, finger-flashing cretins. I will gladly donate a box of bullets to them so they can settle their scores with each other. Just leave the rest of us innocent folks alone. I promise I'll dance at their funeral. I might even send a flower to their show-hos with their "tramp stamp" on their ankle, upper left breast, neck/carotid artery, or wherever they get their seal of approval.
2. I'm sick and tired of what has become of education. I've been trying to teach foreign language in high school for 25 years now. Learn Spanish? Half of them couldn't find Mexico on a globe, let alone conjugate a verb. I'm okay with that, actually. I expect teenagers to be ignorant. What I CAN'T fathom is the idiocy of the so-called experts in education who think that if students aren't learning, it must be because teachers aren't connecting with the students. Well, as Dickens's Mr. Bumble would say about No Child Left Behind, "If the law supposes that, then the law is a ***, a idiot!
3. I’m old-school Catholic. Like Macbeth seeing the dagger in a vision, I often see a pair of pliers before me as I endure one guitar liturgy after another.
4. I often despair over the abuses of the English language. I’ve all but given up hope of seeing the apostrophe in its rightful place, and the next person who uses impacted as a transitive verb gets it with the ball-peen hammer.

Boat,
Read your bio. It has me nodding in agreement with everything except that "making contact with the students" part. I think teachers do need to make contact with their students. Obviously some common ground establishes some basis for communication with those who want to learn.
And it's for the others that the contact should take another form. Remember, a pat on the back builds character if administered often enough, low enough and hard enough!

Don't tell me to put a sock in it. I know you, Patrick, and if you knew who I were, you wouldn't do that. No harm was meant to your friend, Maryann. I just had an opinion as did she and we had a tiny difference, is all. Good luck at MHS.
