About Tara
I'm a coastal living and environment reporter for the Advocate. I came down to good ol' Victoria after graduating from the University of Texas in Austin, where I received degrees in Journalism and English.
In between graduating and getting my first journalism job I got married June 9 in a beautiful plantation wedding. My husband, Grant Gomes, works as culinary manager for Red Lobster.
I grew up in small coal mining community in western Pennsylvania and went to high school on the coast of Virginia.

Another Pennsyltuckian in Victoria!
I was born and raised till six in Williamsport, Home of the Little League World Series (We moved to Elmira,NY). I visited my grandparents in Wmsport, every summer for years when I was growing up, in time for the Series.
My Granddad was the Yardmaster for the Penn Central R.R. there, and I got visit him at the yard - that was so long ago they still had a roundhouse there. You're probably too young to recognize that term. It as a big covered building with a set of tracks across a huge turntable. As I recall, there were four or five sets of tracks that led out from various points around the edge on the turn table to different parts of the train yard. It seems that putting the engine(and it's coal tender)on the turn table and rotating it was the most efficient way to re-route it in another direction. Sometimes the engineer would let me ride in the cab while the engine was being rotated. Oh boy! "Roundhouses and coal tenders" - I've really dated myself. At any rate welcome to Victoria.
