As a Viet Nam vet, I support you right to define "patriot" any way you want as well as the right to disagree with any or all of the government's laws, policies or actions. I do feel it is a a sign of disrespect to the men and women who have died to protect your rights to see you fly the flag upside down as a means of political protest. Surely there are other, more productive ways to work for the changes you want to see, if that's what you truely want.
If on the other hand you just want to draw attention to yourselve and/or be controverial, then what you're doing is a sad thing.
