Actually RedRage, I called you a twerp and/or a twit, but not a troll.

It's interesting to see the level of understanding about basic grammer from someone claiming to have a master's degree ("He calls everyone a troll that doesn't think like him")

Ah well, kids these days....

Shurelee,

I think the only one that frequents the park is you. Maybe that is why you have stayed in Victoria all these years.

Backtrack all you like Mike, but where do you get off accusing people of >"Superficial patriotism?"< (Comment From: Mike Tue Oct 30, 2007 16:18:57 CDT)

If people don't react by your definitions of "true" patriotism then they are "shallow" by your lights.

As my teenage granddaughter likes to say with a roll of her eyes, "What ever!"

I am not blindly obediant. I actually have no opinion because I know we don't have all the facts. I do ask myself at times like these why would all those people be risking their lives for a lie? You actually think the men & women in our military are like sheep? They must believe in what they are doing so maybe just maybe they are aware of something we are not. Why would you be so bold to think and to suggest that these people are willing to die for a lie or worse, nothing at all? That you sitting in the safety of your home knows more or better than they? These men & women are willing to leave their spouses widowed, their children missing a parent, their parents losing a child.....for lies. Thats just plain arrogant & wrong.

Sorry victorianbybirth but I gave up "blind obedience" when I left the service in 1967....A lot of info is out there on how Americans were duped into this war off choice. Proud marines ,I would not expect anything else.God bless them.

I respectfully disagree. The surge was intended to give the Iraqi Parliament time yo come up with a POLITICAL RESOLUTION.
General Petraeus said we cannot win this militarily. No political resolution then the surge is not working. Did 28,000 addition troops help quell the violence ,yes but so did the ethic cleansing by the Shia Militia.....MSM is not the only source.Dignitaries from other countries will say Iraq is still very unstable. $20 billion for rebuilding Iraq and 5 years later and still limited utilities...Sorry but I think a trillion dollars can be spent better in America. But God bless your son and may he come home safely.

I know quite a few Marines over in Iraq & Afghanistan who are proud of what they are doing over there. It is easy for us to armchair quarter back the war but I would hope that there is information that is not made available to the public. I'm sure we don't have all the facts nor should we. But the anti-war people want to believe what they want to believe but I find their prostest disgraceful since most of them don't have a full clue about what it is they are protesting. There are things we don't know, shouldn't know & probably don't want to know. We should stand behind the men & women fighting for the freedoms we are enjoying.

I understand that the war was over in 2003. I also understand that the troop surge worked. I talked to a Corps of Engineers man last Tuesday. He said that a lot of things are being misstated in the media. There are more utilities for more people, NOT just Baghdad. Bagdhad is used to getting everthing for themselves so of course they will complain when they have to SHARE the power. My son is over in Iraq right now, doing an awesome job in Fallujah. After reading the newsletter for parents and families, the people are GLAD we are there. The children are happy when our men can give the children gifts such as a football or frisbee, or some other small toy. Christmas is coming. Maybe we should send toys to our men and women in uniform so they have something more to give to the Iraqi children...

One more for the troops....

I've checked this out and it is legitimate!

>"Something cool that Xerox is doing

If you go to this web site, www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq . You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.

How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! This is a great site. Please send a card. It is FREE and it only takes a second.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our guys and gals over there need to know we are behind them...

To ignore can be done in two ways.

I did not single anyone for participating in a pep rally and I
have commented against the magnetic emblems a long time ago.
On Sept. 11, 2001 a young co-worker was bragging about giving
blood. I told him I would be more impressed if he enlisted.
Perhaps I was wrong but that is how I felt. I just hate superficial people.

My anger is with our elected chicken –hawks that keep our troops in
battle, wear a lapel, will show up to pep rallies, yet when it comes to
trying to work on an exit plan, it’s all politics. They vote against a
pay raise and try to renege on veteran’s benefits. Then there are those
young people that will make the pep rallies but will not enlist.

Calling me a troll. Lol …How many people have you attacked, just today.
I rest my case.

Lately, I've been ignoring you Mike....because I've decided you're a liberal troll - granted, rather more intelligent than the average left wing troll, but a troll for all of that.

You're showing your own shallowness (or your hatred) based on your ridicule of others for "pathetically" displaying their support for the troops in some small way - it's too bad that it doesn't meet your definition true patriotism. No one has suggested that you should lower yourself from your self-appointed "moral high ground" by wearing any color in particular.

If you think it's phoney to outwardly show support for our troops in a harmless and non-confrontational way - you're entitled to your opinion - so be it, I certainly don't care.

This country is anti Iraq war not anti troops and the troops know that. I hear that all the time. Anti Iraq war people do
not have anything to prove, that was tried initially and back fired.

Superficial patriotism?

Want to support our troops make sure they are treated well when they
come home and make their visits to the VA Hospital.
Want to support our troops, get them out this war of choice which is now
a civil war.
Want to support our troops make sure your Rep, votes against a cost of living
raise.
Want to support our troops, make sure they go to battle with the best equipment.
Want to support our troops, make sure they have competent leaders.

Yellow ribbons, magnetic emblems. lapel pins, and wearing red to a pep rally
is not what is needed. We need a plan to get them out of there.

I have never been a cheerleader nor do I wish to start now.
I served my time and my friends and neighbors know how patriotic I am.

We are not the country we pretend to be.

I support the troops. I support increasing the spending for their healthcare and whatever else they need. But I also think someone needs to rein in Halliburton with their $100 per bag of laundry (from the mouths of the troops themselves) for example, and other excesses while our infrastructure suffers.

Perhaps blood red is a more appropriate color for the pro-war crowd.

There is a difference between supporting the troops and supporting the war. I'll wear red to support the troops, but I don't support the war.

I won't wear red if its the color of the wacko right LOL

Acually Karie, I believe that pink is now the wacko left color of choice.

If I see a bunch of folks starting to wear red I'll believe that it's people who really do support our troops and not those who talk out of both sides of their mouths.
By the way, I'm not suggesting that you would ever be a "double" talker.

That's interesting , Shurely, because the antiwar movement was wearing red on Fridays a few years ago. I suspect we won't know which one is really in the majority, except of course, by those pesky polls that indicate that more than a majority of the public is "done" with this war and spending money on Iraq.

For those who support out troops - a simple request.

A friend sent this to me and I thought it was worth posting for others to see:

"RED FRIDAYS ----- Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing something Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the 'silent majority'. We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers.

We are not organized, boisterous or over-bearing.. We get no liberal media coverage on TV, to reflect our message or our opinions. Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops.

Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that.. Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar will wear
something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers.

If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, co-workers, friends, and family. It will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once 'silent' majority is on their side more than ever; certainly more than the media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked 'What can we do to make things better for you?' is...We need your support and your prayers.

Let's get the word out and lead with class, with dignity, and by example; and wear something red every Friday.

The truth the small amount of al Qaeda in Iraq can be run out by the Shia.
How we can twist the truth. No responsible person CAN COMMIT to anything
unless you have a crystal ball or God talks to you.

77% think this war is useless and proof of that came in the November 2006
elections. Dem’s won in GOP strongholds. They did not lose a seat and are
in line for a repeat.

BTW the surge was to provide security for a political resolution. Do we have one? Is there a plan on the table? No.

No Suzy ,Bush does not care about the GOP just his legacy. We will the same amount of troops there on election night.

The surge has been working. Deaths of American troops aren't making news since they are becomming less frequent. Each of the Democrats aside from Dennis Kusinich (who has as much chance of being elected president as I do) will not commit to troop withdraw by 2013.

The dirty little secret is that neither party will bring the troops home because the war in not senseless. The American military is helping draw terrorists from around the world onto the Iraqi battlefield. These islamofasciests won't go away if we go home. They'll just have more time and effort to carry out attacks here.

How much you wanna bet that the troops will start to come home right before the election, so the republicans can take credit for it. There is no way in h#ll that they want anything to do with the war to help the Democrats come election time.

And he’s back the administration can’t get enough of Ahmad Chalabi.
Ahmad is the one that fed the lies to Rumsfeld in the lead up to the
war of choice. He fed them lies about WMD and terriost ties.

Now he is back in Iraq to this time to restore life to Baghdad neighborhoods.
He must have something on this administration.

While the death tolls are indeed coming down in Iraq is it because
of the 28,000 addition troops or the ethic cleansing by the Shia majority?

Word coming out of Iraq by General Abund Qanbar(head of Iraqi army)
is saying the surge “Operation Fardh al-Qanoon” has been successful.
We were told this surge was to give the Iraqi parliament the cover it needed
to come with a peaceful resolution. That resolution is no where in sight.

It was said on, Bill O’Reilly that this was supposed to be bad news for
the Democratic Party and mainstream media was not covering the good
news to help out the Democrats. That’s ludicrous, because that assumption
could be turned around. The Dem’s could say the GOP is letting our troops
stay in the line of fire for political reasons. The Dem’s are not saying that.

17 votes in the the senate is needed for a withdrawal from Iraq. The polls
show the senate will continue to be in hands of the Dem’s with a likely
pickup of even more seats.
