"SOMEBODY MAY HAVE BEEN AROUND, COULD HAVE SEEN SOMETHING OR SUSPECTED INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR, THAT'S WHY A CONSPIRACY COUNT WAS ADDED TO RATCLIFF'S INDICTMENT"  ~ Steven Tyler, Victoria County, DA

Well, I can just imagine that many a person have been knocking on ole Tyler's door just to admit that they have been part of a conspiracy! What kind of freaking nut would want to come forward NOW and admit they suspected something? Does Tyler really think those jailers who brought men to Ratcliff's office in the night and left them there behind closed doors alone with him, will incriminate themselves and set themselves up to be  "co-conspirators"?!  I think not. What jailer would EVEN question the boss/sheriff as to why he needed a private audience with a prisoner, even if it was in the middle of the night? Day or night, what subordinate would question the authority of the Sheriff? None, I suggest!

Tyler, himself knows this and this is another pathetic attempt to "talk around" and avoid the truth as to his actual imvolvement in " the investigation" of Ratcliff.  Tyler wasn't  elected until November, took office in January, yet claims he has "been in on the investidgation' from the beginning.  Rubbish!  Look at the time line folks. This investigation began by the Texas Department of Public Safety almost 15 months ago. Then FBI was called in, NOT Tyler. Tyler is again misinforming the public. He is wiggling ever-which-a-way trying to cover his butt to explain away... why he would hire an alleged child molester! His spin on the "investigation and his involvement" is indeed a story.  In my prosecutorial opinion this (Tyler's spin)  is a fairy tale, in the worst sense, hitherto; implied.

Madhabit,That had to take a lot to finally come out and speak about what happened to you.A while back I expressed to the posters about Ratcliff purposely putting a white man in a cell full of Hispanics and he was jumped and beaten until he was hospitalized.some people took it as if I was just throwing stones at Ratcliff but I really wasn't joking.

I don't know what has inspired me to step forward right now, but I am someone who has been affected by the Ratcliff case. I was never assaulted by Mr. Ratcliff directly, but I was victim to his illegal jail practices. When I was sentenced for three days in his jail for misdemeanor possession of marijuana (I was caught in a car with a joint) , I was put into a maximum security cell with known gang members. This is illegal on a number of different levels and flies in the face of the Texas Department of Jail Standards. Ratcliff was doing it this way to make a profit for the jail; the reason I was put into a max security tank for such a petty crime is that I was arrested in Calhoun County and sent up to Victoria as a "contract inmate" given the fact that the Calhoun County Jail was closed for "renovations." Trust me, the Calhoun Jail wasn't being worked on for beautification purposes. So to make a long story longer, I was placed into a contract inmate cell; all of us in the cell were from out of town regardless of crime committed. This set Ratcliff up with a perfect opportunity to victimize people like myself, as I was beaten and raped in the cell I was in by the two gang members who both received long prison sentences after I filed criminal charges. I then proceeded to file a civil litigation suit claiming the jail and Sheriff Ratcliff were running a dangerous, illegal jail that was understaffed with guards. I was led handcuffed and shackled where I gave my testimony to some officers who basically mocked my condition, and I didn't get any medical attention whatsoever. Several weeks later I set up an appointment with Sheriff Ratcliff and demanded answers as to why I was put in such a dangerous cell with violent felons. While I was asking questions, he was watching the video of me just hours after being raped giving my testimony to the detective! Why would he even want to watch that? At the time I had no idea he was such a sick predator but I could sense that something was missing.. his complete lack of empathy and understanding of my pain was very telling that something was amiss, and it was far beyond the fact that he had recently suffered a stroke. It was a cold, animalistic look in his eyes that was much the same as the eyes of the men who assaulted and raped me... Suffice to say that the guy is really unnerving in certain situations. I watched him go from friendly and charismatic when in a room full of people to clinical and cold-mannered when in a room alone with him. I was then 23 years of age; I'm now 26.

I can't name any names, but I will say this - there has been a number of high-profile people in and around Ratcliff's life that have worked hard to keep him under wraps. In my case against the Sheriff and the Jail, I was recommended a lawyer by a man who turned out to be defending Ratcliff in his current case! The lawyer I was "given" practically closed the book on my case; it took me an entire year just to fire him as pieces started coming together. Luckily I found two brilliant lawyers in Austin who were familiar with the Victoria Jail; they knew the tactics that Ratcliff's handlers would use and won the case for me.

Sitting across the table from Ratcliff during a mediation finally cemented it in my mind; he has a group of people that are very aware of his ways and speak for him at any given moment. His group of lawyers and insurance reps would constantly hush Ratcliff anytime he attempted to speak to me. They lead him out of the room after he apologized to me in front of the mediator and never said a word afterwards.

Apologizing to the defendant in a civil case is basically saying "I'm guilty as sin and I'm sorry I caused you suffering." His words sealed his own grave and my case, which had been dragging on for four years prior to that day, was settled in a matter of hours. I didn't care about the money I received; I just knew that after my case was settled the jail would have to change their policy. They did do that and that monster was booted out of office. Those days are finally over.. and it all seems like a distant memory.

One last thing - it's extremely strange when Ratcliff's political opponent came knocking on MY DOOR asking me questions about Ratcliff's behavior towards me! He didn't come out and say "Ratcliff has a history of sexual crimes" , but he was searching and hoping that I would say something of the sort... It's all very chilling stuff, folks, and it's very real.

I'm sorry for my long post.. I *had* to get this all off my chest. Send me a message if you want to discuss this issue any further. I'm not longer afraid to talk about it, but at one point my life was in such scrutiny that I had to move away from my parents, change my phone number, and basically stop talking to everyone that I knew. Everyone in my life was being harassed by the Sheriff's handlers, including my girlfriend at the time.. It's all so surreal.

Now I can't get a job anywhere because my background check always fails.. How can this be when I have only one misdemeanor on my record? I wouldn't put it past Ratcliff to personally alter my identity. It's extremely disturbing to think about him having in his own personal possession a videotape with my testimony in which I am crying and giving explicit details of my assault. I don't want to know what he did with that tape. Well.. there's a hell of a story for you. Let's all keep our eyes peeled for suspicious persons, I would start with a certain former D.A. who now defends Ratcliff. Goodbye for now!

You know, Denny, as I was enjoying my pancakes with the Reverend Mother, this morning at breakfast, I could see what Tyler needs to do. It's no big revelation!

To encourage all people who know something, to come forward and in THE INTEREST OF JUSTICE, Tyler needs to offer all takers Immunity. This simple act would help his investigation and possibly lead him to the truth.

To not do so would make me think that he is less interested in the truth and that the others might be right. Maybe he does have a vendetta against law enforcement.

This is probably one of the best posts that I have read throughout this ordeal. I have been in agreement with everything that you have written. I think this coverup has gone on so long that now any person/persons involved don't know what to do. I bet there has been a lot of sleepless nights for so many people. The wagons are definitely circling downtown! Thanks for the great post & keep them coming.
