You know people say Filley was a good DA. WEll back in March of 1992 he let a person or should I say person's get away with MURDER.My step dad was shot six times five at close range by two different guns. The people who did this got off on self defence what kind of justice is that.Thats the same year Ratcliff became sheriff a couple of months later. And now this is the same man who is defending Ratcliff I wonder if he will get a off.If you have a record your a bad person at least in the laws eyes.If I offend anyone Im sorry.

Does anyone know why City Attorney David Smith pled the 5th amendment at Monday's hearing? He has alleged there was a "cover-up" in the Ratcliff case, and had been issued a subpoena. He filed a motion to squash it, but when the judge asked questions, he pled the right agaisnt self-incrimination. Why??? Perhaps because he helped fuel the uproar around the Ratcliff case (as if it needed more fuel)by making some pretty irresponsible statements that can't be backed up? And why didn't the Advocate report that their motion to have the subpoena that had been issued to them squashed was denied by the Judge? Or did I miss that information? I did not know any of this until I watched our local TV news. It's good to have another source of information besides the Advocate....which is involved in the case itself.

By coincidence there was a very interesting story in The Austin American-Statesman the other day on their long time DA and how he took on a lot of hight profile cases.
Travis DA Earle has spent decades jousting with powerful, dangerous

I agree, excellent article. Right or wrong, let's present the truth for what it is. Let the cards fall where they may. Hopefully, they fall on the side of justice. I have a teenage son, so I take a personal interest.

I don't know about Filley's record in prosecuting sexual offenders.... but if you look at the DPS website, there are plenty registered sex offenders in the Victoria area, so it's highly possible Filley facilitated their convictions. I do know for a fact that Filley was tough on Hot Checks!
I don't have an opinion on who defends Ratcliff. As a former prosecutor, I am certain Mr. Filley knows what the best possible strategy will be. I am, however, uncomfortable in Mr. Tyler prosecuting this case. I think that he should follow the judges' example and request a special prosecutor. I would not hold it against him at all. This case is so tangled up with the prosecutors office, VPD, SO, former prosecutors, etc., you'd have to have a score card to see who's who.

This case reminds me of OJ Simpson and Johnnie Cochran.

Excellent article. Filley will do a fantastic job in Ratcliff's defense.
