I have to say that I have never heard such outrages and unprovable comments such as the ones coming from RedRage. You really need to get a grip on reality and stop saying things that can't be backed up. My faith is not a myth and not matter what you say, you can't prove that it is. The writings of Tacitus and Josefus Flavius historically document people from the Bible, especially Jesus. These are historical writings, where is your proof. No matter what your beliefs may be, you greatly diminish yourself and your argument by stuping to such supercilious and childish comments. If you say that Christianity is a myth, then prove it. I won't hold my breath.

jroe,
I see that you are gay, but you also need to understand that not all gays play with barbies, etc. That is just a stereotype. Don't spread stereotypes like that. It only gives the ignorant fools in here more fuel for the fire!
Once you leave that hell-hole called Victoria you'll see that. I have a lot of gay friends that are probably more masculine than a lot of these guys in here running their mouth lol! I don't discriminate my friends based on sexual orientation and I don't constantly tell them they are going to hell or that they are unnatural. Because God created us all just the way we are whether or not the holy rollers admit it or not. ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE YOU! Not any of these mother ******* in here!
They know that society is changing! They know that they are fighting a losing battle! Let them have their bible quotes. It's all they have left in a losing battle! :-)

The problem with the appearance of the gays and lesbians in the Christmas parade had nothing to do with Scripture and The Bible. The problem had to do with attitide and how they composed and expressed themselves. This was a holiday festive event. The appearance of this group offered nothing to the spirit of the holiday. A bunch of unclassy individuals chanting about abortion and dressed in as trashy attire as could be mustered deserves the judging and ridicule they are recieving from the public. These individuals once again intrude and invade the traditional values parents strive to pass on to their children. Homosexuals seeking real equality and fairness listen up; The rest of the world is not interested in your sexual preferences, we do not need to know in the first sentence from your mouth upon meeting you, that you prefer sexual relations with those of your own gender. Keep your private lives and what you do in your home to yourselves just as we who live traditional lives do. In simpler terms act resespectably and you will get treated as such.

Looks like you way out of your league. Again.
You quote the Old Testament. The New Testament is the book of worship for Christians. Do the words "new covanent" mean anything to you?
A person can likely find a quote from the Old Testament to support almost any position, on any subject. You are "picking and chosing", just as the folks on the other side of the argument are. That makes both of you wrong.
Jesus taught of love and tolerance. And it's a sin to do otherwise. The important thing is that we are all forgiven. Through belief in him.
I've read that approx 10 percent of the population is gay. By choice. You like the lifestyle and like being different.
I did have a gay cousin. He died of AIDS in 1988.
Gay animamls? You put yourself on the same level as ignorant animals? I have never seen a gay animal, or one that has gotten married either. Are you putting yourself on the level of an animal having no means of logic or reason?
If you are a Christian, as you claim, your lifestyle is not in line with the teaching of the Bible. And you need forgiveness. And if I dislike or hate you for your lifestyle, I need the same.
Peace.

jroesyhnuaa,
I'm sure we have all had a relative somewhere along the line that has broken every one of the "Ten Commandments".
Somehow, I have to think, that doesn't make it right.
It's a CHOICE and It's WRONG!!!
Just because it feels good or Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle say it's OK, still doesn't make it right.
It's also clear by your posts that you are either very young or just not very well educated, I will assume both for now. Remember this...You will get older, and unless you are extremely lazy and/or just stupid you will change your life style. I guarantee you that!!!
Good Luck, you need it!
I doubt you've heard of Barney Frank of Massachusetts. He is an example of a stupid person that never outgrew his stupidity.
It's a CHOICE and it's WRONG!!!

Ok stop! Please let's end this discussion. Being gay is not, repeat, not right. Not in any way. Certainly not spiritually. No where in the Bible does it say to partner with the same gender. Not physically. The human body was not built to procreate with the same sex. In case you missed sixth grade biology we were designed to fit as man and woman. Not morally. How can gays possibly think what they do should be accepted by society. How could they. It goes against all laws of nature and reasoning. Don't think for a moment that what you do is right because you can't find a partner of the opposite gender to be with. That in it's self is proof that gays have issues of thier own to deal with. Deal with them and get over it. Don't force your choices on us. We are not responsible for your issues as you are not responsible for ours. It's simply a convenient escape or excuse to not have a regular relationship because you are unable to or to lazy or afraid to try.

Hi Shurelee,
Yes, I am probably judgemental about Christians who think they know what God wants, but I am so very tired of the hypocrasy (sorry spelling bad today). I had an evangelical uncle of mine come to my father's funeral and tell me that it was a shame my Dad was going to hell because he hadn't been saved. The "church" that protests funerals of gay people who die of AIDS is another reason these so-called Christians turn my stomach.
The Jesus I learned about was tolerant and kind, never condemning people. Anyone who judges and condemns is not a Christian IMHO.
I addressed the symposium in the other comment on the other story. The APA will not change it's stance on reparative therapy. It is harmful with a capital H and if you think Ted Haggert is going to not be gay cuz he went to therapy, think again. He'll just learn to hide it better. He didn't want to be gay, that was obvious, as was his self-hatred.
The APA factsheet and position on this subject is documented on their website. Please check it out.
About religious nuts, yes. True spirtual people who take Jesus' word and apply it to their life? I have the utmost respect. Folks who justify their intolerance and prejudice with a passage in the Bible? IMO they do have a disease - a mental disorder called narrow-mindedness and intolerance. Close to narcissitic personality disorder.
You said " A symposium sponsored by Division 1 (Society for General Psychology) was held at the annual convention of the American Psychological Association in San Francisco on August 20, 2007."<, whose speakers included two former presidents of the APA as well a former member of the board of directors.> - A symposium is a discussion, nothing more.
Read the other article response to your comment.
You said Enlightened practitioners vote in the committes that make the decisions - like we do when electing a president thru the electoral council. The APA will NOT change its position as it based on the best outcome for patient and current reputable research from peer-reviewed journals and studies.
You said I'm truly glad to hear that. The APA website has many links to various reputable studies. I can only tell you what I saw in private practice and from being around gay and lesbian students at UHV, VC, and CBC, where I teach. Denying who you are and your sexual preference only causes mental anguish and illness. If homosexuals could choose NOT to be gay when they first figure out they are attracted to the same sex, believe me, they would make the choice to be straight. No one chooses to be gay - it's like asking for a life sentence of problems and shunning by society.
But - I don't like PDA from anybody, gay or straight.
Thanks for the good conversation.

GoliadChica,
Surprisingly, for a mental health professional, you tend to come across as more than a bit judgemental.....>"Nice to know there are real Christian people out there, not just the rabid -in-your-face, we're-saved-and-you-aren't Christians. They make me tired with their yammering and closed-minded drivel. They cheapen spiritual belief."<
Somehow, I would have expected a less biased conclusion about people who have strong religious convictions - you make it sound like they have a disease!
Still waiting to hear if you read the www.narth.com article discussing the >" A symposium sponsored by Division 1 (Society for General Psychology) was held at the annual convention of the American Psychological Association in San Francisco on August 20, 2007."<, whose speakers included two former presidents of the APA as well a former member of the board of directors.
I thought they made an interesting point about allowing the general membership to vote on the APA’s position on homosexuality rather then a closed, inbred circle of committee members who take turns rotating through the committees. Such a democratic choice might result in the APA taking a different “official” approach to the cause(s) of homosexuality, and whether or not it is a condition that can or even should be considered treatable if a person desires it.
I truly am interested in hearing from a mental health professional such as you, rather than laymen who tend to make uninformed proclamations about cause and effect.

In regards to religious tolerance on this subject, I agree that those passing judgement upon gays/lesbians are incorrect. Let him w/o sin cast the first stone! I am a Christain, and I have no tolerance for what is wrong; however, I have no issue with the people that chose this lifestyle, just the orientation itself. I have children and I would quickly speak out to public displays of overaffection, both straight and gay. I don't want to see it! Its a form of devilish marketing, no matter what the orientation is. I do strongly belive that homosexualality is biologically, biblically, morally, and physically incorrect. You have to live in the dark to avoid being ridiculed and are treated like second rate citizens, like a child with guilt. So my advice is get over it! If you feel that it is right, then why worry about what others think?

OMG - words of wisdom and tolerance from a Christian?!?!?!
I'm both pleased and shocked. Izzy, from the posts I've been reading, I thought people like you were extinct in Victoria.
Nice to know there are real Christian people out there, not just the rabid -in-your-face, we're-saved-and-you-aren't Christians.
They make me tired with their yammering and closed-minded drivel. They cheapen spiritual belief.

I, quite frankly, am extremely disgusted at some of the responses from residents of Victoria and the surrounding areas. I understand that there are people of immense faith in these areas of the country and county, but yet doesn’t Christianity and the majority of society teach tolerance? Doesn’t Christianity teach the Golden Rule? “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you?” I attended a very reputable Catholic school and high school for the majority of my school years and not once, not ever, were we taught that we as a people were meant to push away and segregate people of different race, sexuality, or gender. We learned to get along and accept all. We also learned that the Bible is a guide to live by, and we must remember that the Bible was inspired by God, not written by God himself, so it could include the persuasion of prejudice of the early Hebrews and Christians. Our human mind is so limited that some of us take the Bible literally and obey each word it says as if it’s a direct command. For all we know, gays and lesbians could have been put on this Earth as a form of keeping the population controlled. Perhaps if there were more of them we wouldn’t be fighting to end abortion and ruthlessly killing the millions of babies with the potential to change the world and end diseases that could better our world. Our founding fathers created this country so that everyone would be treated equally, and it's apparent that we have an extremely long way to go. I myself have been discriminated against for being bisexual by my own close family and friends, yet there are those few that hold me closer for admitting and fighting for the right to equality. I just ask all those who bear such bitter words to put themselves in the place of those who are being singled out and feel the pain and humiliation that many of the radicals have placed on their shoulders...they’re not asking for special treatment–they’re just hoping for the respect and acceptance of those around them, and for those people to figure out that they’re not monsters or these sick people society makes them out to be. Sure, they might do things differently, but don’t we all in our own little way? That’s what makes everyone unique.
