Why is it that a rich man cannot take up the plight of the poor or middle class without being ridiculed?
Robert Kennedy did. He was not a hypocrite ,in my opinion.

Riverboat,
You said >"It's high time rich folks like Edwards, Kennedy and Gore ponied up to help all the little people they are so concerned about."<
Until the entire tax code is revised, I'm afraid that the likes of those folks you mentioned are still going to find loophoes and tax write-offs somewhere.

Hello Riverboat.
Do I detect a little sarcasm?……lol
I was stationed in El Paso for year, and I could go on top Franklin Mountains and see the difference.
Edwards, Kennedy, Gore and Clinton will be hit, when the Democrats repeal Bush's tax-cut to the 1% of the wealthiest and divert this money for middle class tax cuts
.“I don't lose a lot of sleep worrying how much taxes the rich pay” (sic)
Mitt Romney

If you want to see what poor people look like, spend a day in Mexico. It's just a 4-5 hour drive, and you don't even have to cross the international bridge. Venture a little farther and you'll run into plenty of poverty.
I for one am glad to hear the Democrats call for more taxes on the wealthy. It's high time rich folks like Edwards, Kennedy and Gore ponied up to help all the little people they are so concerned about.

Hey, Maryanne,
I understand where you're coming from. I'm typically not one to complain about materials. In fact, I wasn't complaining then. I really just wanted to give some perspective. As much as it bothers tstorm when people complain and have far too much, it bothers me when people make generalized statements with an arrogant attitude. I know I'm pretty well off. But I know a lot of people who aren't, and are still happy.

Hello Nimhilach,
You sound like you are in pretty good shape due to your hard work, except for that huge debt. BUT with the fantastic education you got from it, it should be no problem to wisely save more money and pay it off.
I realize that "pretty good shape" is relative. Yet it's difficult to listen to people complain when they have a computer to type on, electricity to boot, and time to type.
I think that some people look at us "poor" Americans and think we're greedy. We got a lot, and only want more. (I put my hand up on that one too, as far as being excessive with materials.)

"Yeah the Country is in terrible, terrible condition. Everyone has at least two cars, many people buy cars for graduation presents for their kids, many people can afford to send their kids to college even though tuition has doubled and tripled in price, everyone has a big neautiful flat screens, $3.00 gas scares no one, and on and on and on."
tstorm, I've just graduated from college. I will end up paying $100,000 in college debt. My television is a hand-me-down that's probably incapable of cable television once they make the switch to digital. My car has almost 100,000 miles on it, and if something were to go wrong or it was stolen, let me tell you, I'd be in a fix. I can't afford repairs, much less just go out and get a new one. Yes, I got a car for graduation. It was work $4K and I paid for a good portion of that with money I'd been saving since 4th grade.
I'm stretching my finances to rent a decent apartment in a fairly safe part of town. I am literally living paycheck to paycheck.
$3 gas scares the HELL out of me.
Don't assume too much about life in America. I know plenty of people who live just like me.

A mind changing wimp? I do agree the great majority of the country was with the president including me, when we attacked Afghanistan, it was that detour to Iraq, when the president lost support of our allies. President Bush still had the support of the American people, when we invaded Iraq, but the supporters were duped. Instead of accountability, they rewarded the people who got us into this war of choice
.I blame the Democrats, who gave this president, the authorization to go to war
.I blame Democrat Dick Durbin because he saw evidence contrary to what the administration was saying and he remained silent.
I blame Colin Powell and the other generals that disagreed with the invasion for not coming forward.
I blame the New York Times and Washington Post for not vetting the administration’s propaganda in the lead up to the war. Judith Miller comes to mind.
Plenty of evidence in the 9/11 Commission Report to place the blame of the 9/11 attack on both the Clinton and Bush administration.BTW we have not found the anthrax attackers, and that was after 9/11.
I was in the minority, because I never agreed on the invasion in Iraq. I still believe our ally, Saudi Arabia was involved somehow, cannot be trusted,

I was just commenting on a difference a day makes ,one party is for more tax cuts for the wealthy, and the other just the opposite in their last debate. How this drifted Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Jay Leno, and Keith Olbermann is beyond me,but I have a few minutes to respond.
One has to admit that Keith Olbermann, does have a left wing bias, but he does not pretend he is fair and balanced. On the other hand, Sean Hannity admits his bias, but Bill O’Reilly is a biased right-wing pundit, that says he is fair and balanced.
I watch Keith Olbermann every night, because his humor and knowledge of the issues entertain me. I agree with Stealth,Keith bashes the Bush administration every night, but not the country. To some that might be the same thing.
The article by Jay Leno was very interesting, and he did make some great points, but if we rest on our laurels, we will be overtaken by a country like China who is pouring money into their military industry using the profits from our trade deficit with them.
Our economic competitors are not wasting their money in Iraq.

Yeah, what President Bush is doing sort of makes you wish Clinton was back, so we could have asked for an apology after the 9/11 attacks right. Then asked for another apology, then maybe filed some sanctions, then....you understand all to well how the Dems work, now don't you!
I remember all you "mind changing" wimps right after the attacks. Isn't it great that you can support something and then when you get tired of it, you can just walk away and claim the Administration is doing a bad job.
Can't you remember everyone screaming USA, USA, USA!!! after President Bush told the crowd at ground zero, "I can hear you, The rest of the world can hear you, and the people that knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon"!
You "mind changing" whiners disgust me.

"Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? ..."
What people are unhappy about is that they falling behind with this administration in power. We were supposed to be close to paying off the national debt in a few of years, but under Bush our national debt has doubled with his useless wars. Most people are seeing their buying power diminish, see higher education becoming unaffordable, and national debt getting passed on to their kids. They see over 40 million Americans now without health insurance because it has become too expensive.
Yeah, Americans are "spoiled." Spoiled by rewards their hard work (and the work of their forefathers) has brought them, and they are seeing things get worse for them and their kids.
It's the direction of the country that has people annoyed.

"Why can't they just do like O'rielly and put FAIR & BALANCED information on the TV and let the viewers make their own conclusions???"
BWWWWAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You think Bill O'SoftPorn is fair is "Fair and Balanced?" The whole network is a GOP tool. Roger Ayles has been trying to get Rudy/Judy/let-the- city-pay-for-Booty-calls elected; even Fred Thompson complained that he isn't getting the same treatment as Rudy.
At least Olbermann is lying about being F&B.

I do watch Olbermann from time to time, just to see if he has anything positive to say about anything. So far nothing.
Back in the early 90's, when Olbermann teamed with Dan Patrick on ESPN, they were the best thing ESPN has ever had, EVER!
Now on MSNBC, nothing but hatred, venom, anger, and lies, are steadily flowing from his mouth. It is sad that MSNBC will resort to making up stories to have something to air. Why can't they just do like O'rielly and put FAIR & BALANCED information on the TV and let the viewers make their own conclusions???

Mike, later when you get through watching Kieth Olbermann bash everything about our country, you can read this.
Jay Leno wrote this; it's the Jay Leno we don't often see....
'The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right?
The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the president. In essence 2/3s of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change.
So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, ''What we are so unhappy about?''
Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter? Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job? Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?
Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state? Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?
I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.
Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and your belongings.
Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own cell phones and computers.
How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world? Maybe that is what has 67 percent of you folks unhappy.
Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S., yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.
I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks?
The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me? Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad?
Think about it......are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the 'Media' told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day.
Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go.
They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an ''other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig.
So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans? Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by 'justifying' them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way......Insane!
Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media. Shut off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There is exponentially more good than bad.
We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative.'
'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, 'Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'
Jay Leno
