He's 25 and just told someone "your mom". That's not juvenile at all. For a guy who lives in Dallas where there is so much to do, why are you on the computer all the time?

snabn,

They can't tie their own shoes, especially the ones in Victoria.

Bravo! They finally got one! That doesn't wash out the other 1000s they f8ck up on a daily basis!

Red...will you walk into the police dept. one morning and tell tehm this? If so, can I be there to watch? Lot of talk on a computer as opposed to being in person. I saw your picture and remember you when you lived here. We know each other, and you are all talk.

RedRage,
Why are you so critical on the police here? Did you have a bad experience or just a cop hater? Second, if you were to come to Victoria and get robbed, are you going to call these guys you say can't tie their shoes or are you going to let it go?

Snabn:

My thoughts exactly. The kids that do their thing nicely without disturbing anyone else are not the problem - it's the loud, obnoxious and thuggish bands roving the place that make going to the Victoria Mall (and the local cinema) really unpleasant.

Sailor,
I'm afraid you're right. The message we are sending is for the crooks to "go ahead" and the citizens to take the beating. Our police were already beat up, and now they have to fight a pissing match with the DA. I never thought I'd miss Mr. Eaves....

Care to guess how fast our DA would jump on a citizen who takes the law in their own hands, like the poor Mr. Horn in Pasadena? Think about it. Some poor guy blasts a low life at the mall. Or the ATM. Or the car wash. I'd bet Mr. Tyler would waste no time in getting his ugly mug on the front page and turning his own investigators (the ones not forced to resign) and seek justice. Don't bet against it happening if this crap keeps up!

This "Daylight Robbery" is but one example of a recent growing trend in Victoria.

The Wild West Gunfight drivebys at East Rattan street.
Several other Drivebys as well
The ATM shooting last friday.
Open Gang Warfare among various Street and Prison gangs.
Hundreds of Car Burglaries and Home invasions...

Victoria has always had a very high crime rate. Much Higher per capita than many other Cities several times it's size.
Hoever, even though High.... it has been on a slowly downward trend over the past 5 years due to the Diligent work of our Local Law Enforcement.

But in the past couple Months there has been a serious SPIKE in Violent and other Crime.

What has Changed about Victoria that would account for Criminals feeling free to do what they want now?

Perhaps that the DA refuses to accept cases from VPD and VCSO has anything to do with it?

naaaaaa... couldn't be that could it?

Tyler and his petty insistance of forcing the Local agencies to Sign an affidavit that would hold them accountable to an impossibly high standard. one far beyond the scope of the law.

Tyler is perfectly capable of holding law emforcement to a high standard and right to do so. what he CANNOT do however is hold up perfectly good cases hold them hostage to his whim.

If the cases are bad then they are bad and should be rejected. if they are good they should be accepted.
Since mid August, Tyler isn't even reviewing the cases for good or bad. he is rejecting ALL cases regardless of merit.

This has sent a message to the Criminals of Victoria.

That message is this....

IF YOU WANT TO COMMIT A CRIME, NOW IS THE TIME!

You can lay the spike in Crime directly on Tyler's doorstep.

Steve Tyler needs to go.

Also high Five to Rusty and his comments on holding Parents accountable to their delinquent teens. The Police are not their babysitters nor is Mall staff and their Security.

RedRage,

You wrote, "I don't think the article said these kids robbed the lady in the parking lot." She WAS robbed in the mall parking lot, just outside the eye place. She was followed by these sh&&heads from a bank to the mall and ultimately robbed. The offenders however are adults, I think the point being made is for anyone who lives here that goes to the mall, see's the juveniles who hang out there on a regular basis. I have seen them and am not one to judge on appearance or clothing, but on actions. When they are throwing hand signs to another group of young boys walking by, have red or blue bandana's hanging from their pockets or simply cursing to the point you can here them a mile away, then they need to be banned. There is nothing wrong when these juveniles go to the mall, mind their own business by walking around or going to the game room. It's the small minority that is being talked about in this forum that are causing the problems. Same for the movie theatre. Fights, screaming profanities, swapping tickets to friends, talking through the movie, and throwing things at people make this a undesirable place to visit as well.
Aren't you also the one who doesn't care for our law enforcement and once said they couldn't tie their own shoes? They did a good job this time in catching these crooks. What is your line of business RedRage. Like what you do, I'm sure law enforcement has its small group of knuckleheads, as does every job.

Ok, maybe I'm missing something here but I didnt read anything in the article saying that the children at the mall are robbing people and gunning people down? Why are yall complaining about kids at the mall and assuming their parents didnt raise them right? KIDS HANG OUT AT MALLS! Its been like that since I lived in Victoria. I hung out at Victoria Mall when I was younger and I think I'm quite the successful young man LOL But I'll let my mom know when I go home for Christmas that she raised me wrong according to some in here haha

The person robbing this girl was an adult. It has nothing to do with the kids hanging out at the mall.

Get over it.

Rustyload:

Yes, parents are ultimately responsible for teaching their children to behave - and in the case of delinquents, should be held legally responsible for their children's criminal behavior. The point I was making however is that the authorities are tasked with maintaining public order, and if the political will were there, or the voters made the politicians, to act on enforcement, effective punishments, and making punishments stick, the crime problem in this city could be helped significantly. You mentioned a terrible example of punishment gone awry, and I happen to know of another where a gang of juveniles did over 100000$ worth of theft and damage to property and based on their ages received 'slaps on the wrist' and there was no restitution to the business owners. Where's the justice in that?

Well, what can you do when 2 of your best players are sidelined? They still did fairly well against the Lakers considerign they were without Tim and Tony. They will be back soon though.

Its early in the season. Spurs kick it up after the all-star break. Its always been like that.

Its funny seeing all the bandwagon dallas mav fans jump off just because the Mavs are struggling early. I love it though. I hate the Mavs LOL

Ikon,

Since when is hanging out at the mall a crime? So what if these kids are hanging out the mall? Isn't it better than running the streets? I don't think the article said these kids robbed the lady in the parking lot. You call them thugs but that is just going by appearance. I can dress up in hip hop clothing but that doesnt make me a thug. Kids hang out in the Victoria Mall because guess what? THERE ISNT **** TO DO IN VICTORIA!

Also, crime happens everywhere. I don't live in Victoria anymore but when I do visit I go to the mall sometimes. This person getting robbed isnt going to make me not shop there. Its just going to make me more aware of my surroundings. I'm aware of my surroundings EVERYWHERE I go because crime happens EVERYWHERE, even in the safest whitest upperclass neighborhoods.

So ikon, what you are saying is our crime problem is with the authorities? Do you really want to go there? Let's start with the juvenile delinquents at the mall. Where are the parents? Shouldn't parents share the blame? Secondly, two of these 3 robbers aren't from Victoria, or at least don't live here. What more can the police do? They can arrest them, but they can't chop their hands off so they don't steal or rob again. What good is sending someone to prison for 10 years when they will be back in Victoria in another year. I sat on a jury where we convicted a guy and gave him 10 years. A little over a year later, I saw the guys name under the "Arrested" section in the Advocate. Where is the justice on that?

Yet another reason not to shop at the Victoria mall. My family and I haven't shopped there in over a year anyway, mainly because of the roving bands of teenage thugs that infest the place. Of course, crime can happen anywhere but it seems that Victoria is particularly crime-ridden. When we came here due to my career, we were led to understand that the city was safe and a great place to bring up children. Wrong. We used to live in a city of over 9 million and NEVER experienced the level of crime that we have here- both in general and in particular (our car has been vandalized twice), and it seems that the authorities are doing very little to clean up the situation, especially with the street gangs and young people. And speaking of young people, after checking out the schools, there is no way that I would ever enroll my kids in the VISD. Needless to say, we've been very disappointed with our time here, and it's a shame because Victoria is in a great location and could be a nice, major city if the authorities had the will to clean things up crime-wise and make improvements to the neighborhoods, and bring order to the schools (not to mention allowing for real growth economically and the development of culture).

huh... as i was reading the other posts, i came across to what "chaching" wrote & i jus wanted to say that i work at a law office downtown Victoria, i sit right by a window and I had the blinds open to where I can see everyone that passes. I looked up and saw a girl( who had an asian face) and she was going to keep walking but then she saw me and came into the office, she said that she was raising money for a church? but thats all i understood beacuse she was sort of mumbling and she didnt give a name. She was wearing a tag agross her chest as well...hum, this might be the same girl...? dont you think "chaching" ? I've never heard of this church and i just don't like the fact that people can walk right into a business place or the mall, for that matter, and ask for money! Something should be done about this!

mall parking lot peddler? i came out of the mall last night about 830pm and was approach by a girl w/ a tag on her chest and a notebook. She (asian face) asked for a moment of my time. Was she working for the mall? The parking lot was still full. I saw _ _ church on the name tag but I didn't see the first names. This is where the mall should ADD more security. 1-2 ppl on a cart can't handle the crowds.

Is it too severe to wish the death penalty on this man?

This poor woman is minding her own business just going along on her own way when some A$&%#*@! comes along demands her property and punches her down for it...

Personally I think someone should take him out back and beat the living S%$#! out of him. But...that's just me.

This is tongue-in-cheek, right?

I'm reminded of the response Willie Sutton made when asked why he robbed banks: "Because that's where the money is."
