I have addressed the other issues of VISD. I also have plans to pay for private school for my grandkids no matter what it takes becaue I dont want them to have a crappy education. Yes stuff has gone on for years, stuff that shoudnt go. Ive talked to three other directors and None of that crap is allowed on their teams. If a girl gets nasty with an other in the manner that the girls do on this team, thats it, gone. Everyone respects everyone and thats the rule. You didnt read what I wrote, its been happening since I came here in 1985 and it needs to stop. The rules change daily to accomodate those who are think they are better than the rest.

I found out this morning that dual credit classes are held on MHS campus, not at the college. So the MAJOR MOM lied again for her daughter. As far as the jackets are concerned, all other organizations consider the jacket earned when ordered, not the last day of school. So here again, one set of rules for each group. Nothing consistent in VISD.

Did anyone see or hear about the sign that was changed at Memorial yesterday?

A student said someone changed some words around on the letter board in front of the school.

Glenda, I know you are proud of your daughters as well you should be! These girls work very hard and are dedicated. They are talented and it shows. I'm willing to wager, that if at anytime you suspected mistreatment, hazing, unfairness, or some other nefarious activity, you would have taken your children off the team for their own good, wouldn't you? You would have complained to the principal, school board, etc.....

Mingo, how can you hold DJ responsible for the actions of a few girls who act like typical teenagers -- "its about a redheaded kid and her possee of team members who make sophmores do things just because they have the power. Its about going from one team member to another and saying, dont hang out with so and so. or dont invite this one and that one. its about going to another member and saying. we hate your guts, why dont you just walk off this team? and no its not hearsay, I heard it myself in the fall of 2004." That was nearly 4 years ago... I'm sure that student has since graduated, and you are going to find that type of behaviour EVERYWHERE!!! Trust me, it is not unique to the Dance and Drill Team. Girls will be girls will be girls.... GET THE HECK OVER IT ALREADY!

Mingo, there isn't a conspiracy to blackball your daughter or any of her friends --- YOU TOOK YOUR DAUGHTER OFF THE TEAM! Kids who DO NOT participate in the competition DO NOT deserve to receive awards or be credited!!!! If the older girls on the team demand that the underclassmen let them pass in the hallway, oh well -- that type of stuff has been going on for years! Mingo, you have an unhealthy obsession with birsmirching the director and the CHILDREN of the MHS Drill and Dance Team and I suggest that once you let go of your anger, and focus that energy to something more constructive such as combatting the drug problem on our campus; finding out why so many students are dropping out; and why MHS is one of the LOWEST academic ranked schools in Texas, you will feel so much the better for it! Because if you continue making these personal attacks against Ms Jaynes and the girls of this winning team, you are opening up YOURSELF to a lawsuit.

ShauniC - Honey, good luck at the exposition! You will do well, as will the other girls. Those in the audience will see the payoff of all of your dedication and hardwork and guidance of your coach!!! Be proud and hold your head high!!! Don't listen to mingo or any of the others!!!!

Shauni and Glenda
the only kids I have an issue with are the ones who give the whole team a bad name. You both know who they are. as far as hazing, its not just babyfood. its about a redheaded kid and her possee of team members who make sophmores do things just because they have the power. Its about going from one team member to another and saying, dont hang out with so and so. or dont invite this one and that one. its about going to another member and saying. we hate your guts, why dont you just walk off this team? and no its not hearsay, I heard it myself in the fall of 2004. You say that the kids have to secumb to the olderones of rank only in drill team class, thats bull because students tell me they have to stop in the hall between classes to let a upperclassman pass and if the get iss or detention for being tardy, OH WELL.
If Dj is fair, you tell me why in all the years past, everyteam member had their name on the tshirt and this year if you didnt go to competition, you dont get your name on it. If she is fair, you tell me why one boy misses a ton of practices and lies about why and is allowed back on the team and a girl who missed one practice to see her brother off to defend our country in iraq isnt allowed to dance. Tell me why one kid who didnt attend competiton doesnt get a medal and one who quit the team does. I could go on and on but why bother. All the favoritism went on in the 80's and 90's when my older kids were in school. It just seems like the last two years, there have been more instances of dispicable behaviors and no punishment. When I was on drill team, we even had to keep the same rules that the atheletes did about rest and bedtimes etc. We had curfews for school nights that other students didnt have and we were checked up on. Our mothers would have never lied for us. I know you are fond of DJ but you probably havent seen the sides of her that I have over the last 20 or so years. And it seems to be getting more and more obsessive and more of a power struggle. I would bet that if everyone had to take a drug/alcohol screen at 8am any given monday, more than half wouldnt pass. All the folks on this blog seem to think I am a nut case because I watch things and investigate what my tax dollars are doing. People seem to think that since my kid is out of school, that I have no say in education in this town. Why shouldnt I when I pay for it like everyone else. People who educate their kids privately pay double. When any teacher, not just DJ takes a paycheck from a publicly paid entity, they should earn it 100%. A good number of parents and students will tell you that she doesnt stay in her classroom and doesnt teach them anything, that they learn themselves. Thats Wrong. I guarentee that if any other teacher did that, they would be gone. The team wont last if some changes arent made. You watch and see. I say stricter rules for everyone, not just a few. I say the same rules apply to all students, not just a handful. I say parents need to admit their kids arent perfect. they need to help get all the partying stopped. They need to help kids be more productive. Most of you are, a handful arent and are always gonna bring down the group.

I am the managers mom and I would like to tell all of you that can't seem to stop all this nitpicking on DJ and the kids on the team.
I've been associated with drill team since 2000 when my first daughter became a dancer. She had never danced a day in her life before she decided to try out. No she did not make the team and went to DJ and talked to her about what she could do to be on the team. She was very kind and gave her some great tips. That year she needed to have a second tryout because not enough girls made the team. Well with tips in hand she did what DJ told her and tried out a second time and made the team, (and no she was not a favorite). We never saw DJ be mean to any girl or as some of you say make a kids life miserable. She was nothing but nice to my daughter. Along came my second daughter that tried out in 2004 and made the reserve team. She did not really like the dancing part and talked to DJ about being a manager because she really wanted to be a part of this team. And to the lady that called her a flunky. You should be ashamed of yourself. This is a child and you are an adult(I assume) so why would you call my daughter names because she chose to be a manager? Shame, shame on you. Since my she has been on the team again I have not seen DJ be anything but nice to the kids. Yes she may have a day where they don't want to listen and she gets frustrated but what adult has never been frustrated with a kid.
As far as the two girls quitting on their own accord and not getting their jackts. The way it works is like this, You get a drill team school jacket when you complete your sophmore year on the team. If you quit, get kicked off or move or whatever you don't get the jacket. It is earned for a full year of participation. One of those girls moms should have already known this because she already had a daughter on the team before. It was that way in 2000 and is that way today, the rule has not changed and that is the way it should be.
Please mingo and the others that are writing all these bad things. Do you really think that this is the only team that has problems? Well they do its just no one is on here talking about it. Why,I'm not sure. Seems that ever since we consolidated everyone has hated the drill team. Please stop all this and just let the girls and boys enjoy their achievements. LET THEM BE KIDS! You really don't know how much you are hurting these kids. They read these things. It is time to just let it go. Please.

mingo--"MHS Dance and Drill Team just has a very different way of doing things from favoritism to hazing to how the team members are selected." Iwould just like to say that because of all the hazing allegations in the past that the only thing done now that is even close to hazing is the sophmores get tochoose whether they want to participate in the tradition of eating baby food 1 meal at camp (and they really just spit it out and go get real food after) they wait at doors during drill team class, practice, events ect. (not during regular school) and girls higher that sophmores get to eat first because they have been there longer and have earned there right (kind of like elders of the group its just courtesy to let them go first) and if you dont want to participate in those activities sophmore year it is fine the only "reprecution" (which many claimed are taken) is that you don't get to feed a sophmore or do anything to them your senior year. because if you dont wanna take it you cant dish it out. and I myself and many others I know found the baby food deal fun when we did it and we didnt really care about waiting because usually the seniors wont care and will just tell you to go so your not in there way. Thats not hazing.

I have requested that officials interview some of the students who she teaches in a classroom suituation. they need to be asked how often she leave the classroom for the majority of the classtime to stand out in the hall and talk on the cell phone. IF students cant talk on theirs, teachers shouldnt either.

and darlins, there is a group of parents who are considering a civil suit. I hope they do, and just to clarify, My daughter had left the team when the student put the drugs in her drink in the stroman cafeteria. The student who did so was at that thime and still is a member of the MHS Dance and Drill Team and her parents think that she does absolutely NO wrong. And I hope she has changed and she doesnt. I dont hate anyone, I dont hate DJ. I do however despise her attitude to certain students and if she cant be fair, then she doesnt need to teach. I just find it oddly coincendental that the girls who are omitted from the shirt she has a vendetta with.

Mingo, if you are so concerned about your tax dollars being wasted by Ms Jaynes, why don't you pay a surprise visit up to her class room and see what's going on and report back here with FACTS not heresay.... Or better yet, why don't you worry about the wasting of tax dollars on some of the higher ups! I'm sure that Ms Jaynes salary isn't the biggest problem in the school district --- You sound like a passionate person, mingo, and could probably do some good, but seriously, this obsession with Ms Jaynes is wearing thin... it's unhealthy and it's time to get over it -- move on honey, move on!

It concerns me when I pay school taxes just like everyone of you do and the money isnt being spent wisely. It concerns me when a teacher who is being paid out of my tax money is not doing what she should. And outside of drill team in her other classes, she doesnt. I am not stalking anyone. It so happens that from time to time I see different things going on during the day. and I assure you that VC classes arent being held downtown!

Mingo, why are you stalking members of the dance and drill team that you know their every movement? That's kind of scary if you ask me....

As far as DJ having favorites and treating some better than others: YOU HAVE NO PROOF of it, merely heresay. By your own admission, your children are not in ANY school in VISD and therefore have no contact with Ms Jaynes. So what is your problem? Why does ANYTHING she does concern you so?

As far as the Major taking dual credits at VC, certain classes at VC meet at certain times.... for instance, the course the young lady is taking may only meet on tuedsays and thursdays... So therefore on MWF she would not be at either MHS or VC and not be "skipping"...

Also, I'd like to point out some discrepancies in your reasons for your problems with the team. In a different topic, you stated that your youngest daughter was on the team when she was a freshman, and quit after having a car accident which injured her back... then it was changed from that to DJ forced her to quit... in this post you state that other team members gave your daughters drugs and the school would not intervene.... so what is it? It is a sad fact of life today, that nearly 1 in 4 kids are involved in some type of illegal drugs. It is not limited to class, age, background, race, religion or sex.... Please do not kid yourself into believing that if anyone on the dance/drill team was caught using that the school would look the other way -- the school as a whole, does NOT have a good drug policy. There are no REAL consequences for being caught using. Until such time as that changes, we can only vent about it.

Mingo, I really don't understand your hatred of Ms Jaynes. You don't have any kids in school, yet you just won't let this drop.

As to the allegations that Ms Jaynes has her favorites: well that happens. There are people we tend to get along with better than others. So what? As for the girls not having their names put on the shirts -- well, if their grades were not up to par and they did not actually compete with the team, why should their names be on the shirt? Oh, did you know conduct grades must be up to par too? I do not believe you have all the facts, Mingo... instead of blaming only one party, you should hear both sides of the story. Maybe those girls had too many absences or tardies... maybe they had bad attitudes or were sent to ISS during the time of the competition.... We just don't really know. To be frank, Mingo... it's not really your problem now is it? So why be so concerned? If your friends have kids on the team and they are concerned about unfair treatment or what have you, then their choice is: quit! find another activity... or shut their trap and deal with it. But stop blaming Ms Jaynes for everything from pimples to global warning.

Do you really think Ms Jaynes is stupid enough to ENCOURAGE hazing, and the other bad behaviour? She could be held liable in a civil court.... and I really think she is smart enough to know that!

This bashing of Ms Jaynes and the girls who work their butts off is getting really boring! I think you need to seek help mingo.... you certainly seem to have some issues...And no, my daughter isn't on the dance and drill team.... so I'm not blindly defending Ms Jaynes. What I am doing is trying to get you to quit finding fault with a winning team and a winning coach!!! The girls are on the team because they possess the talent, the determination and the dedication it takes to be what they are: WINNERS!!!!

You folks may call this mudslinging, I call it facts. The fact is that when Dj gets it in for someone, its over. she will do everything in her power to make that kid miserable. Most have quit the team over it. a couple have stuck it out for some dumb reason. I dont deny at all that the kids work really hard. And again, if you are one of her who's who's, you are treated more than fairly and if you arent, then you batter watch your back. Im not the hateful person that you think I am. If I was, I wouldnt be blogging on behalf of several girls who have been treated unfairly. DJ conveniently hocus pocused two letterman jackets and refused to release them because the girls voulentarily left the team because of her crap. She has found every excuse to not let four kids dance in the exibition. From the questions Ive asked of these kids, the grades are now sufficient, but they cant dance. She is also refusing to put these girls names on tshirts because they werent a part of competitoon, yet they danced the whole year on the team. Is that a little demeaning? does that translate to if you can help me see my name in lights, you cant participate in anything else. You havent a clue about this woman you protect so much. If you knew about her what I know about her, you wouldnt bother, but since you believe nothing I say, I wont bore you.

Mingo, please answer why you said:

"I see her Major out driving around during school hours in her little white SUV. Is she skipping school or is she being dimissed from academic classes to run errands on behalf of the team or practice for competition on the slick? IT sure makes one wonder how she will get credit for the school year if those are acutual absences".

The answer is that I have many time seen that girl during school hours driving her vehicle about Victoria. If I didnt know what she looked like, the sticker on the back window would tell who it is. I am all around town everyday with my work and I have seen it quite a few times and at different times of the day. What would you think if you saw a student out of school during the day upon many occasions? Maybe I should have taken photos!

"The beef should be with DJ and especially the higher ups that allow this nonsense to continue."
I have beefed with the higher ups. My problem is not only with Dj but with students and team members that feel they can inflict emotional harm on others and nothing is done. Those particular students have parents who think their kids can do no wrong. DJ is flat out ventictive and I knew she would find a way to retaliate to several girls.
"As passionate as you are, I'm surprised you haven't raised money and hired a lawyer to take on the district."
I have an attorney in the family, I dont need to hire one. In so far as singling out any one student and the mother defending her here. Yes I did single her out. I dont buy for one minute that the kid is only out of school for a dual credit college class. College classes are the same time every day. This girl is all over town at all different times of the day. My personal suspiscion is that Dj is sending her to do errands for the team or her personally. Several students at MHS have said that. What I am the most tired of is my freind and her daughter being attacked for what I do and what I say because they have no part of it, as a matter of fact, they probably wish I would shut up but thats not my personality.

I for one am beginning to see a pattern here: One or two people for whatever reason have it out for not only DJ, but the "students" who are members of this team -- It has been stated in this thread and others that the Dance and Drill Team of MHS (and if they want to be called Victoriadores, so be it, only then name of the school has changed, not the city ...)DO NOT fall under the auspices of UIL. So therefore the practice rules do not apply. It is OBVIOUS that these long practices are paying off --- SHOWTIME NATIONAL GRAND CHAMPIONS-- Good work !!!! -- and the team knows from the get-go what is expected of them-- keeping grades up, practicing, conduct, etc... and the parents know this as well. If the parents thought their child was in jeopardy, they'd pull them off the team kicking and screaming! The principal, teachers, administrators, etc... all know the score, and you cannot CONVINCE me that EVERY single teacher at MHS would be so intimidated by another teacher to give passing scores to members of the Dance & Drill team.... I don't buy it. (I know there is corruption abroad, but NOT to that extent). Ok, so one of the members got caught shoplifting --- that happens, kids do stupid stuff -- this person was PUNISHED and help accountable for her actions: Not only does she face criminal charges, but also was made to face her teammates and confess her crime and was taken off the team - the punishment fit the crime! Now, I want to know how and why anyone would consider this to be DJ's fault??? And how anyone could think this WASN'T punishment enough? As to the allegations that members of the team were caught having sex in a motel room during a competition, I ask: HOW WOULD YOU KNOW THIS? Were you there? Did you see the alleged acts? Or did you just HEAR the rumor and take it for gospel fact? If it did happen ---- well, lets face it, High School students do have sex and will have sex if presented with the opportunity.... Isn't that right Mingo???Recently, it was alleged that the Major of the Dance & Drill team was "seen about the town" during school hours...well, that girls mother came on this forum and told you what the situation was: The young lady, talented, intelligent, popular, etc., is taking COLLEGE COURSES because she is furthering her education! The person who made the allegation has yet to say: "oops, my bad...." If DJ is truly not doing the job that the school is paying her to do, then that is between her and her employer. Please do NOT delude yourself into thinking that she has not been subjected to scrutiny due to the mudslinging done in this forum. I feel bad for the girls... Here they are working their butts off, doing a DAMN FANTASTIC job, and have to listen to this garbage that has continued ad nausem for MONTHS -- Mingo, I've said before: If you have valid proof of illegal activities going on, then you should COME FORWARD NOW, and not wait. If what you allege is TRUE, and you don't come forward, you are putting innocent victims in the lway of harm by your silence.... and if i'm not mistaken, you can be held liable for such. You are just perpetuating what you claim is being done.... If there is no such proof, shut the hell up about DJ and get on with your life! Stop causing these girls grief and upset, that they don't deserve.

And Mingo...I worry about your well being. You have made many statements that have angered people and called them or their children out. I don't know you, but I found out who you are through other threads. I'm on your side with this matter, but you need to handle it in a different way. The beef should be with DJ and especially the higher ups that allow this nonsense to continue. As passionate as you are, I'm surprised you haven't raised money and hired a lawyer to take on the district. You can't single out these girls. It's sad to see a mother trying to defend her child through this form. Also, they read these in school.

IT seems to me like people dont want the truth. This isnt about one girl, its about several who werent fairly treated. And not only this school year. If anyone says that every team member is treated in the same manner, it is a lie because they arent. I dont see how you can say that I dont see things. I am all over town Monday thru Friday. I see a lot more than you folks think I do. I am entitled to form what ever opnion that I want to and I am entitled to compare what your team does to other teams that I have been around. MHS Dance and Drill Team just has a very different way of doing things from favoritism to hazing to how the team members are selected. Hopefully, when the other schools are built, there will be NO more unfairness because others will be in charge. You people act like I dont know anyone else or thier families who are on the team or have been on the team other than my freinds kid. Not so. Ive been watching some of this stuff since 1986. Both of my older daughters had freinds on the team and we all watched. the bull hasn't changed, just intensified.

Reading your statement above, indicates that you cannot and should not express your opinion on the matter. My advice to you would be to go find another blog and run it into the ground and leave this one alone.

mingo - You have been rude and trashing people without knowing the truth. You make up lies and write them as if they are true. You say you have seen things on the drill team. How? You are not there, you are not a part of the drill team. Nanci, it is not DJ's fault that your friend's daughter did not get to dance because she did not have the grades. It is over! We finished our season, and we were wonderful. It has been a fantastic year! Are you going to blame DJ if people do not make college teams? Maybe you and your friend need to grow up, and take responsibility
for your own actions.

No one was trying to ruin anyones reputation. And your daughter is not one of the team members known for wildness. I speak for several who would like to hold the director accountable for her unfairness and you know that it exists. IF your daughter hasnt experienced it or been accused of something that an adult has done and been punished for it, then you are fortunate. I apologize if you took what our intentions were in the wrong manner. The girls worked hard to win titles. I feel like Dj has been unfair to the ones who are seeking spots on college teams, because she takes the team only to competitions that she knows she can sweep and may not be giving them a piece of the real world when it comes to trying out against girls who have experienced the tougher competitions. She has been unfair in other manners also and I hope it all comes to light and is made right.

My daughter is the Major of the Drill Team. She was informed that she had been discussed on this blog. I decided to check it out. Since you are concerned about her whereabouts and academic standing, I thought I would take the opportunity to share some of her accomplishments with you. She is taking two classes at VC right now/dual credit. She drives herself to the college so you don't have to worry that she is skipping classes or running errands for DJ. She is graduating in the top 2% of her class and has been accepted into the Red McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to being the Major of the Drill Team, she is also a class officer, NHS, Anchor Club member. My daughter has had an incredible year leading this team. Your comments about her whereabouts and standing at school are completely unkind and lead others to believe less of her. I have no desire or time to continue a dialog with you or others on this blog, so I will just ask you to please refrain from trying to ruin her reputation. She does not deserve that. Thank you...

Ash, we dont hate the girls, most of them are awesome people. what some of us are trying to do is open eyes of those who think the director is perfect. she doesnt teach her classes, she stand in the hall on a cell phone, ask any student who has her. she doesnt teach drill team, the officers do. She plays favorites with certain girls and always has. she is outright ugly to others and nitpicks and accuses them of doing things that they dont. But if you are a whos who with her, it doesnt matter what you do. If a student does something that should be getting them removed from the team, some are and some arent. ITs really not fair. I see her Major out driving around during school hours in her little white SUV. Is she skipping school or is she being dimissed from academic classes to run errands on behalf of the team or practice for competition on the slick? IT sure makes one wonder how she will get credit for the school year if those are acutual absenses. DJ has a ton of hidden agenda and when folks run onto her unfairness and call her on the carpet, she retaliates like a clawing cat. I" m not perfect and I can admit that. She isnt perfect and she cant. All the girls whom she praises look up to her and the ones that she retaliates agains still seek her approval, for what Is beyond me. Good day

Why the hatred towards a bunch of high school students who have done nothing wrong but work hard and compete to the best of their ability?

At Galveston and at Cypress Springs, people would show up a 1/2 hour or more before MHS was scheduled to perform so they could get a seat to watch the performance. That simply does not happen when other schools perform.

Victoria should be proud of the way these girls and boys perform and they should not be torn down because they work hard to get where they are. That in itself is a pretty good life lesson, in my opinion.

From what I've seen, these kids act responsibly and respectfully in public. I've read some of the negative examples on these threads but you know what, not everyone is perfect and kids do make mistakes. From what I've seen, those that do make mistakes are held accountable and my hope is they learn from them and become better people as a result.

I have met many a former Victoriadore and drillteam members and all have been solid citizens, co-workers and friends.

Another note, I have to praise the example the parents set. Moms and dads were there to help when other schools needed their sets, props and curtains set up and torn down. The parents support their kids and that is another great lesson for when these kids become parents. Many kids from other schools at the competition in Galveston did not have their parents there to help set up, tear down or just to watch. How sad is that?

If you really want to see a great show and support these hard working, dedicated young people then attend the Drill Team Exhibition next month.
Stevie, I will be there and I would like to see you there.

Does it even matter? People, I would like to see everyone of you get out there and do what these girls do on a daily basis! I think it is awesome that they represent us in such a competitive event! I was in VICTORIADORES many many many years ago, and these girls do SOOOOO much more then we didi then. It is hard work keeping in shape, learning routines, staying away from family, and keeping up with grades the way they do. So they get second place.... THAT IS AWESOME! So they compete against themselves... If they are so good that noone else will compete against them, how is that their fault!?! They work just as hard on that routine as they do on their high kicks, jazz and solo dances. They all deserve a pat on the back for just going. I am proud of you all....And to the teachers, director and choreographers WAY TO GO!!! Jennifer

This Horse has been beaten to death!!!!!

There are probably 50 National Champion Dance and Drill Teams. They all claim to be the National Champion.

They all work very hard. Some are probably better than others. Some girls probably get into trouble. Most probably make good grades and are great people. I'm sure they all put in a ton of extra time practicing.

I can't remember the D&D Team doing anything that affected me so much that I was driven to verbally attacking them. Or the Football, Baseball, Golf, Soccer Teams or Cheerleaders.

They know what they do better than anyone else. If they perform against lesser squads, I say fine. If they perform against a tough field , I say fine. They do work hard and that's enough for me.
I enjoy attacking the "Fab Five" that were arrested from Calhoun the other day, much more than a bunch of over achieving Dance Team members.

Have a great day everyone.

First let me say I havent said anything negative on this blog about the students on the team. I talked about how the competitions are structured and I talked about how its not the team as a whole who picks competitions. Adults do that. The kids did work really hard and so did the parents. I doubt if MHS is the only team who goes where they think they have a competetive edge. Ive never seen them at any of the competitions that Ive attended with other teams, but IM sure that doesnt mean a darn thing.

Second, let me say that Stevie is not my daughter. IF my daughter had anything to say, she would more than likely be using her real name. She is a lot more outspoken that I am. She doesnt have access to a computer at her home or her work, so how can she be blogging. To be honest, the only thing my daughter ever got involved in about the team was that a couple of her freinds were being hazed and she didnt like that. She hasnt been in public school for three years now so big deal.

We try hard and as a team we win. We go to Denton to compete every year because for Internationals they put everyone from 3 years old to our team into one big category and decides who wins the whole competition from their top 3 scores. And we have won at MA before. My sister owns a National Champion jacket. I hate the negative vibes, I'm a teenager, I'm doing what I love by my own choice. Theres not a better feeling in the world than watching the stands just to their feet after performing.

Congrats to the Memorial High Drill Team on their National Titles. They are awesome and no one can deny that! So what if they competed against themselves in one catagory, maybe no one is willing to challenge them because they are the best! They work so hard and to have someone rip them apart on here is not fair. I have no attachments to the team other that I am a former "Raider" and appreciate the dedication these girls put into their craft. Stevie you are a disgrace and should move far far away from here. Well, considering they are going to be in Denton that weekend, it would be hard to compete at MA wouldn't it. They go to American EVERY year and go to MA when their schedule allows the. And the Victoriadores have competed numerous times against both Kingwood and Langham Creek, and they beat them. So, why are you so against this team, was your daughter not good enough to make the team? Because there is no reason, as an adult, you should be bashing a group of young ladies/boys this way. It is actually very strange.

You are trying too hard to discredit an accomplishment here. Well, the author has reason to complain that they did not get recognition in the Victoria Advocate. After all, they do report what goes on in Victoria. Would it have hurt to put a picture in the paper or a small write up? We get pictures and write ups all the time from little league baseball and up. The Patti Welder cheerleaders won a national title or something a few weeks ago and had a picture on the website....do you want to discredit those YOUNG girls by saying they competed against a bunch of nobodies at their competition? Unlike you, I'm not going to sit and badmouth a bunch of high school girls. I'm not perfect on these forums but I won't attack a bunch of kids.

I've gone to plenty of football games all over the state and I'd have to admit that the Memorial drill team is still near the top of most that I have seen and that includes all major metro areas.

Give 'em some credit. Stop trying to downgrade their accomplishments. You sit here as an adult and trying to tell KIDS "Hey, you really suck" Way to knock down KIDS.

Grow up Stevie

mmko.... I dont know how to start a thread here. My younger daughter was in that 2008 class and as Ive mentioned in several posts, almost died because another student tainted her drink with drugs to try to get her hooked and the school could take no responsibility for that. We took her to private school and then to home school. That enabled her to move at her pace and educate faster. a friend of mine apprises me of her daughter rank in that same class today and there are less than 700 out of 1200 left. Everyone in Texas talks about VISD's dropout rate, Yet the whole district keeps their head in a hole like an oestrich and doesnt challenge the problem. And these almost 500 uneducated kids are about to take our world over.

I know how the competition works, I just think it could be organized in a less decieving way. There were no competitions back in my day for drill teams. Dancer had them but not drill teams. It really doesnt matter because I believe in my heart that the dancers do their best and its not in their control where they compete. that isnt the decision of the dancers, its the directors. There are some very hard teams across Texas. Ive seen many following the Bandelaros and Tigerettes. I never saw Victoria do the same competition as the Tigerettes. There are so many, no one team can do all of them, thats for sure. I still think that too much emphisis is put on extra cirricular activities and not enough on learning. And that is the blame of the school districts administration. You dont see any fundraisers for kids who are needing to be tutored. This district lets a kid get just about unrecoverable before they offer tutoring. An ounce of prevention for a struggling student who's mom and dad may not know enough to help them with homework and studies doesnt exist. And if we as a society focused on academics, we wouldnt have lost almost half the 2008 class since they entered freshman year at stroman. I guarantee not that many have moved or been removed to home and private schools. Its really sad. Sorry to be off the subject, just needed to be said.

I am not here to start anything, to be honest I hate all the negative words being said, but I just wanted to set some records straight.
In drill team no one competes in their town, then state, then nationals. We would have no one to compete against in the first place for our city, and state, well I guess it would be counted as regionals from three weeks ago in Cypress Springs.
Each company has a national competition including Crowd Pleasers, Showtime, MA, American Dance Team School (which holds an international competition in one week) Dance is very different from track or any other sport on how the competitions go.
Klein Oak was there and they actually gave the team a run for their money. Also, Jersey Village was there so in all in the Super Large category there was 5 teams. Team sizes are determined by how many people are on the team, not by school size.
SOLOS.
One soloist won 1st place for the second comeptition in a row.
There were 4 more solo finalist who did not receive a place because they awarded only a winner and first runner up, but they did get the title "solo finalist" and recieved trophies and medals.

Hey Mingo I heard this, I heard that. If you do not have any hard evidence of what goes on, you need to keep your trap shut and stop trying to start trouble. Those girls and parents work hard. This dance program  is a very good opportunity to have parents and their children involved in an activity that promotes togetherness and relationships. That, in my opinion, is better that not having anything to do at all.

I agree stevie. The competition titles are decieving at best. It seems like one would compete for a state title and then go on the a national if they won that. It seems like DJ enters them in contests that have only a handful of teams competing in their size category. The girls worked really hard and I think they deserved at least a small article in the Advocate to state the results. Not everyone knows where to go to see the results or has the time to track it down. I heard some wild stories about what went on in the hotels and this time believe it or not, It wasnt MHS. IT was mothers squabbling and I thought I heard that one hit the other in the hallway. such role models. I am sure each and every girl that competed worked really hard, not just MHS but all the teams. I hope no one makes fun of the "HOMEMADE" costumes because I know the moms, a couple in particular worked almost every night until the wee hours getting them ready and I think they were homemade because that is the only way to get what was needed. Carol Deatley made every costume her students wore the whole time she taught dance, nothing wrong with that.
