What has the world come to? I stated in a post in the related article that I too came from these very projects over twenty-five years ago. I played at the play ground and in my front yard and my mother WATCHED me do so. On weekends she would take myself and some of the neighborhood children to play at the playground on the Shields campus. Now of coarse as others have elluded to, this took action on her part. The children that live there now have the same opportunity as I. So what has changed? I guess it would be the fact that our society has raised a generation of slackers who expect the world to give them whatever they want. That needs to stop. If you want a playground so bad raise the money yourself. And am I wrong or is there not a small playground located by the leasing office. If I am wrong, my deepest apologies.

Maybe something like picking up the trash at the apts where they live! That would be a good start!
BTW, the city has provided a place for them to play. It is called Riverside Park!

Why is it the Housing Authority's job to entertain these kids? When I was a kid we entertained ourself. We played kick the can, chase, hide and go seek to name a few. Maybe if these people got off their lazy butts and actually contributed to society instead of feeding off my hard earned dollars. Maybe if these people had to work to earn their welfare they might know what it means to put in a hard days work.
Taxes on the local level could be reduced if welfare reciepants had to put in 40 hours a week working for the County and City. Imagine that lower taxes, people learning a trade (besides beer drinking and drugs) and contributing to society. Democrats will probably think we are beign harsh and it cruel and unusual punishment. Bull. They should have to do something to get free money.

I thought this dead horse got beat over the weekend! Oh well, I guess the paper readers missed out so now they can be included. Can't wait to see the letters to the editor Re-ing this article.
Now, to answer the question. They can play there at the apts & if the mothers want playground stuff they can buy a swingset like the rest of us. They can walk the BLOCK to the school. They can go to the public park. There are plenty of options, though none that I'm sure they like as it would require effort on their part. Make a game out of picking up the trash. Teach them to plant flowers & tend them & watch them grow. Do something with them yourselves & stop expecting the rest of us to do it for you! If you don't have time or just don't want to be bothered then QUIT HAVING KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!! Where can they play? I don't know & frankly I don't care, it is not MY problem & it is certainly not the governments or the citys problem.

Again here we go. I live in a dump but the city is suppose to entetain my kids. Build us play grounds, put safty barriers,Do something for my kids ,Cause I don't have time for them.
Lady clean the damn area up and start a sockker team or at least a play group for the kids. DON"T sit there ask for the city to take care of your kids.

The article states that there are cans, bottles, popsicle sticks and other trash, so why don't they clean up the place and then maybe these small children will have a place to play. So, now all of a sudden they want the City to build a playground...if they can't keep the area where they live nice then how can the City expect them to keep a playground nice.

btw, rumor has it that if the playground equipment gets 'tagged' again, if the kids keep climbing on the roofs of building (and tearing up AC units), or if another building gets vandalized - the church playground will soon no longer be an option - with a wrought iron fence and locked gate...
maybe if you didn't tear up everything you touched...

here we go again...
"“The closest playground is the church playground or the elementary school,” Zamora, 22, said.
The kids are too small to be trekking that far from home to play, she said.""
That's why you as a taxpayer can take your kids to the public school playground and WATCH them play !!
Don't send them on their own... walk your behind over there with them!!
