You might find it interesting that HillCo. Partners, Inc., connected to both Delisi and Perry gave campaign contributions to whom......Sen. Glenn Hegar!

WannaBeRancher: It's HB3588 not 3580. But I agree.

Everyone: google "Delisi, HillCo. Partners, Inc. and Rick Perry!" See what you find out.

They sold this unconstitutional clap-trap by telling people they were getting tough on drunk drivers. I mean who doesn't want to get tough on drunk drivers? Only they didn't stop there. They sold this by promising money to hospitals. Who doesn't want more money for hospitals?

The problem starts with a little studied document called the Constitution. A man gets some traffic tickets. He is fined. He pays his fine.(Usually pretty exorbitant fines.) His insurance goes up and since insurance is mandatory in Texas he has suffered another penalty. Ok, maybe he deserves another penalty to get him to slow down but now the state decides that after he has paid his fine and his "debt to society", the state wants more. No! Read the Constitution. That is expressly and specifically forbidden!

The Eighth Amendment to the Constitution says, "Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."

"...nor excessive fines imposed..." Is it not excessive to fine someone who has already paid his fine? Take a look at the amounts provided for in HB 3588!

This, along with the new tollways and the TransTexas Corridor was nothing less than a revenue scheme dreamed up by Rick Perry and a few of his corrupt friends. And it's not just Perry, the DPS has been selling your information for years. You say, "Aw, that's just your address and stuff!" Wrong! They will sell your criminal record, whether it's correct or not to anyone who forks over the bucks. Yup, that's right. That felony you were charged with 30 years ago but were never convicted of? Yup, the just sold that to some computer geek in New Jersey who is creating a database to sell to a Background Check Company. It's incorrect but who cares, it makes money. That's the corrupt state we live in folks and Governor Good Hair is just the latest installment in classy scam artists!

Our lazy legislature didn't even read 3588 or consider it's implications before they voted for it! A good scam artist can sell these people anything!

Ok, I have vented! I feel so much better now! I'd feel even better seeing Governor Good Hair in an orange jumpsuit and leg chains chopping weeds on I-10!

I wrote the above in 2005. You need to know that both Armbrister and Morrison voted for HB3588. Morrison followed Armbrister's lead on just about everything. And now she does an editorial against the Corridor! She also spoke out at the recent TTC-69 meeting in Victoria! A little late but she did speak up!

While I commend Senator Hegar on his stand on this issue, please be reminded Senator, you voted on HB3580 that created the TTC. However, during the 2007 legislative session, thank you for your actions to TRY to correct some of this horrible legislation. We are all expecting even more such actions in the upcominig 2009 session that will kill this massive horrible project.

I am proud that our State Senator has the political courage to stand up and say when something is not right in state government. In this partiulcar matter, Senator Hegar is standing up to the Governor of Texas who also happens to be a member of his own political party. Very risky! But it seems that our Senator thinks putting himself in harms way and risking having the Governor veto a bill or two is worth the price of standin up and doing the right thing. I found especially ironic the fact that both Senator hegar and the Mayor Armstrong's Op/Eds appeared in the same paper and on teh same day. They could not have been further apart in so many regards. Hegar's was a well-reasoned explanation of why he was taking a course of action and what steps led him to take those steps. He pointed out abuses, a lack of trasparency, and a total disregard for the will of legislators, and even more importantly, the constituents they represent. Hegar's op/ed was serious in tone and was not dismissive of the taxpayers of the state. In fact, to the contrary, it was clearly evident that the taxpayers of Texas were first and foremost on his mind.

Mayor Armstrong's op/ed piece was not even in the same leadership league. It apperas that as long as he can retell the story enough times, that voters will simply accept his version as fact. It is not. The Council creeched their ethical and fiduciary responsibility to uphold the rule of law and to protect taxpayers interests. No amount of stale humor or sugar coating will change the facts. Mayor Armstrong should study Senator hegar's op/ed for some pointers on leadership. He should also follow the lead of David Hagan on the council and simply vote as he does. Hagan seems to be the only council member who gets it and has made protecting the public's interest his primary concern.

It would also be nice to see Geannie Morrisson, our State Representative take teh lead on these kind of issues every once and while. WHile I realize that she's not in Hegar's league, couldn't she speak out every one and awhile when she sees something being done that is harmful to Texas. Geannie know that Deirdra Delisi is a political hack and will simply carry out the Governor's vision for TxDot with no questions asked by her and few question drom lawmakers answered. Come on Geannie. Stand up and be counted otherwise your voters are going to think that you are no more engagted than Mayor Armstrong and see where that gets you in two years.
