CG23Sailor - I have to say that your analysis on the immigration situation is spot-on. I am all for overhauling the immigration process, but first and formost, we have to secure the borders. Because of the times being the way that they are, the U.S. has to secure itself from those that wish to do harm. Most Mexican immigrants are hardworking people who want a better life, but there is no filter on the border to weed out those that are criminal and those that wish to do harm to the country. I'm all for hardworking immigrants coming to the U.S. to make a better life for themselves and their families, but it needs to be done legally for the good of our nation's security and economy as well. I get tired of advocacy groups like LASO and LULAC complaining whenever an illegal immigrant gets deported. They broke the law, plain and simple, but these groups just gripe and never give a strait answer when asked if they are pushing for an open border policy. They just say things like, we want comprehensive immigration reform, and we want to bring people out of the shadows. But what does this vision entail, that's the question. And the politicians don't help matters either because all that they do is ignore the problem because they don't want to tick off hispanic voters. They're willing to put the country in jeopardy just to garner a few votes. Despicable. Let's clean up the immigration process, but at the same time, let's protect our country. It can be done.

The way I see it, there are three types of ILLEGAL immigrants.
1) Criminals, You basic thugs and drugs type, your coyotes and other human traffickers.
2) Seasonal Migrant workers, Not here to take part in the American Dream or to better America, they are here only to leach away jobs, money, and subsidies.
3) Those who DO WANT the American dream, who want to be Americans.
the First two groups don't give a damn about our country or our laws, they are here only for what they can TAKE.
the third group though, why do they risk so much to get here, knowing that by doing it Illegally they risk losing everything and NOT getting that American Dream?
Why do they not get VISA's like they are supposed to?
Why?
Simple Answer... they CANT
They would if they could, but the laws and the process are so convoluted, so complex and yes.. expensive.
It pretty much precludes the impoverished groups who want to come here to make a better life from getting here (legally that is)
That is why my idea for immigration reform has step two of my three step plan
1) Secure borders first, don't worry about illegals already here
2) Reform the laws concerning immigration, Make it easier for those seeking to be Americans to do so, at the same time, get rid of the loopholes the illegals use and remove the incentives, crack down on employers who knowingly hire illegals.
3) once you have done the first two steps, NOW you can deal effectively with those who are already here.
the last group I mentioned, those who WANT to be Americans, give amnesty to. but ONLY THEM.
the first two groups, send them packing.
why draw a distinction between the first two?
because group one, the criminals are banned forever from returning. the second group can return IF they abide by the laws and apply for a proper workers VISA, If they refuse and are busted a second time, they become part of group 1 and are forever banned.
This should be fair and equitable for everyone and remove all the arguments the pro-illegals use.
Even the old "But they do jobs that lazy American refuse to do."
This argument is only partially true. Yes there are some Americans who won't stoop to certain jobs. but there are many who would, but cant compete with illegals who will work for less than Minimum wage and off the books (Which is why many employers risk hiring them)
There is a program in place now that will allow companies to hire non-US workers. Its called a Worker's VISA. Part TWO of my plan will streamline the process of obtaining a VISA so that it will be easier for companies to find LEGAL non-US workers. At the same time it will crack down on those who knowingly hire ILLEGALS.
Also, for those Cities who declare themselves to be Sanctuary Cities in flagrant nose-thumbing of US Law...
Take whoever is responsible for the Sanctuary status, Mayor, Councilmen, City Administrator, whoever, and Charge them with a Crime. Aiding and Abetting a Criminal enterprise. for that is exactly what they are doing. It is exactly that sort of condoning the illegals that allows human trafficking and the coyotes responsible for the 19 dead people in our county to thrive.

You might want to check my latest blog entry. "Rare thanks from Across the Sea"
Seems there is a nice Aussie lass armed with a law degree and a job as a journalist, who seems to think we deserve a break and lambasts all those Anti-American Nay-sayers.
Its a very good and spot on post.
Take these two gems for example...
" There is a teenaged immaturity about the rest of the world's relationship with the US. Whenever a serious crisis erupts somewhere, our dependence on the US becomes obvious, and many hate the US because of it. That the hatred is irrational is beside the point."
and later...
"The US has had isolationist periods in the past and it must be enormously tempted sometimes to have another one soon. The consequences of that possibility deserve some serious thought."
And this is from an Austrailian, not an American.

US Citizens are welcome to most of the Countries of the world. I Travel to many of them…
I was shocked.. In the UK you must have an address and a responsible person in the UK or you don’t get in. I was glad my Father-In-Law was in the lobby of the airport. He had to give the address.
The UAE, no questions asked. All of Europe, no issues. Russia you need a visa.. Afghanistan a visa. Egypt, visa stamps that are obtainable at the Airport for a few dollars.
The reason most of the world allows Americans easy access is, we offer economic opportunity. WWW II, It was America that saved the world. We are the most Generous of all Nations and yet criticized for all we do.
Illegal Aliens entering America do not bring with them the economic opportunities that Americans do. The cost of Illegals in America far outweighs any of their perceived benefits. So, The old saying “What is in it for me?” applies, and rightly so, when it comes to Nations and allowable entry.
If Illegal Aliens’ country of origin were not so screwed up they would not have to risk their lives to find work.

We Americans can travel to nearly all first world countries without visas, and most other countries will give us visas without too much trouble. But people from poorer countries have to fulfill stringent (and apparently often arbitrary) requirements to come to the US even as tourists. Mexican friends of mine tell me that they have to prove that they have big bucks in the bank and/or own property bigtime before they can get visas. I have tried to help some of those friends get visas, but got just frustrating run-arounds from the INS.
I have lived and traveled in more than eighty countries on all the continents except Antarctica, so I know what I am talking about.
There is one country which let me in for a protracted stay on a work visa many years ago, and I would dearly love to return there for a visit to see how it has progressed/regressed. I have tried repeatedly over the years to get a tourist or study visa, and have been turned down every time. I am talking about Saudi Arabia. (On the other hand, I traveled to Abu Dhabi and Dubai some two years ago with no problems at all.)
