In this time of drought it is very important that owners of livestock take special care that their animals are fed and watered and not left abandoned in pastures.

Here are some pictures of horses in Yorktown who are suffering terribly  from neglect. Their condition has been reported on-line to the SPCA, but no help has arrived . One   caring person has gone to help them by feeding  and taking them water who found them in this condition while he is calling agencies to help.

They have been reported to the local police and sheriff, but no one will help. Even the Victoria Humane Society refused to help. Chanel 25 was called too, but no help.

They are suffering in a small pasture on 11th street in Yorktown. They have only one person who has spent time, money and effort to help them, plus calling agencies to assist in a more permanent solution to their suffering. for almost a week now and no one will help.

It is a terrible shame that these adult  horses and colts are suffering from such terrible neglect.

I have added a few pictures of Robert's horse Sara. This is how a horse should look. She is not only well fed,, but brushed, and loved. She gives Robert a kiss on his cheek every time Robert gives her her daily ration of feed, This is how a horse should be cared for.

The Wyoming horses run free on open range taken in winter 2007 by a friend. They are healthy and happy running free on the high mountain plains near Wamsutter.

Everyone also has to remember that most of the rescue places are FULL. Yes this is really sad, but the owner has passed away and more than likely they couldn't take care of the horses before the owner passed away. Family members probably dont know about the horses as in some cases. Im sure people are doing what they can but they also have other things to do (child abuse, murder, drugs, etc...) These peolpe cant just drop everything and go help, Im sure they would like too. It cost money, time, man power to take care of horses (I know I own horses). Yes I hate to see this happen to horses much less any animal but it does and more than likely it will always happen. We do what we can.

Robert is getting help and he will continue to care for them as soon as other arrangements will be made. this should be within the next 24 to 48 hrs. In the mean time they are being care for by Robert. Thank all of you who who called and offered help.

There are other horses in another county that have been also located and they will are being reported as well.

The City is in the process of doing something. The Mayor is aware, the Chief of Police is aware, the City Secretary is aware as well. Apparently, the owner has recently passed away.  I am sure that something will be done ASAP

I am truly appalled that the owner/owners of the horses in Yorktown would let it come to this!!!
And to hear that there is NO help out there for them??? What are the citizens of Yorktown? Where are the citizens of the surrounding towns and cities? Where are the local law enforcement agencies?
Mr.Roller, you are a GOOD MAN to do what you are doing to help another of God's creatures.

there are several equine rescue groups that will get involved and take the horses.. but if they are inside the city limits this becomes an issue for the city police if they are outside the city limits then it is the sheriffs responsibility ... You can go online to the aspca and file a complaint or to the Texas Humane Society and file a complaint.. the sad part is that we are under the Dallas ASPCA .. they will not seize the animals unless the officials charge the owner with neglect and animal cruelty.. if you need help getting something done please email me !!!

I might suggest trying to determine the physical address of the property (might ask the any neighbors what theirs is) and go to Dewitt CAD. From there you should be able to determine the owner of the property, if not the horses.

Best of luck.

aprox. 130 gallons of water is on its way to be delivered to the horses now. It should be about 30 minutes to get there.

It was advised that the sheriff be called again to give address, AGAIN.

Thank you!! I know the address across the street from the pasture, But I am afraid to post it here due to legal reasons.Even though we are trying to help, good Samaritans can be sued for giving out info to the public  such as names and addresses. The gentleman is going to call the sheriff again ASAP to give them the address again. It would be wonderful if we can get them help today!

I called the Sheriff's Dept. and asked if anyone knew anything. The dispatcher said she would make sure someone knew. I also called the Houston SPCA. They are the chapter who televises their rescues. They took the report, but I couldn't give them a complete address. If you have a good address, I will be happy to call again with that information. In fact, with a good address, I can find out who owns the property. I found out a long time ago that the squeakiest wheel gets the grease. Just keep squeeking and so will I.

It is 11:15am they were just checked. They were given hay, but there was not a drop of water in the small trough. Water is going to be delivered shortly by the gentleman who found them. He had to go back to his place to get the water buckets filled.

He needs help to help these horses.

Pictures will be available of the colts later today.

a Cuero Deputy has seen them and he said he would tell Campos. This was a few days ago. It was the Deputy that has seen them only as far as we now know. I am not so concerned about the legality as I am getting the horses help ASAP.

They are located within the Yorktown city limits.

Perhaps Chief Paul Campos has not been informed. The Mayor, Rene Hernandez, would certainly be interested. Has Sheriff Jode Zavesky been notified? Isn't animal abuse a state jail felony? Has the DPS been notified? There has got to be someone to help.

The police have seen them, but will not help them. The gentleman who found them is going out to check, feed and water them 2 to 3 times a day. But he can't afford to keep doing this. Bringing this situation here, we hope to get some help from someone or agency who can. They need to get a long term solution to their situation ASAP. The SPCA on-line was given a close address, but nothing has been done yet.

I don't know the name of the owner or land owner. The local police know, but they will not do anything.
IT'S TERRIBLE
They just agree they need help.
They have seen the horses, but don't care enough to get them help.

Who is the landowner or who owns the horses? Maybe if their name is made public they will be shamed into doing the right thing.
