Installation of new traffic signal begins in Karnes City
KARNES CITY - Work begins this week on the installation of a new traffic signal at the T-intersection of state Highway 123 and U.S. Highway 181 in Karnes City, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Transportation Corpus Christi District.
The contractor, Hunter Industries, began setting up traffic control barriers and warning signs on Feb. 20. The southbound travel lanes on U.S. 181 will be reduced from two to one lane through the intersection. A protective merge lane will be created for southbound traffic on state Highway 123 turning left onto southbound U.S. 181.
The traffic signal project is expected to be completed by late spring. Portable message boards will be set up to warn motorists when the new traffic signal will be turned on.
