Wagner resigns as Victoria Generals coach

After one season with the Victoria Generals, Ryan Wagner has chosen not to come back as coach, the team announced on its website Friday morning.

Wagner declined the position after taking a full-time job with an oil and gas company, which would have limited his availability over the summer, the team said in its news release.

The Generals finished with a 28-31 record under Wagner, finishing in fifth place and out of the Texas Collegiate League playoffs. Wagner, a former major-league pitcher with the Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals and a Yoakum and UH alum, became the team's second head coach after Chris Clemons chose to step down after two seasons.

The team's general manager, Blake Koch, said it hopes to have a new coach in place as soon as next month.
