Image Would you feel comfortable leaving your children at home so you can attend a church where the preacher has pleaded guilty to child molestation?

That is exactly what some parishioners at a church congregation in Jacksonville, FL chose to do.

Here’s a brief summary of the story as reported by WJXT News-4 :

Members of Christ Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church recently welcomed Darrell Gilyard into their pulpit.

Gilyard pleaded guilty to lewd conduct and lewd molestation involving underage girls in his congregation at Shiloh Baptist Church in 2009.

In the past few weeks, Gilyard began preaching at Christ Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church on the Northside, which agreed to ban children from Sunday church service since Gilyard is not allowed to have "unsupervised contact with children under 18 years old."

According to the news station, minors will be allowed to begin attending church service again in two weeks.

The Florida sex offender registry lists Gilyard as living in a motel in North Jacksonville.

His new position has drawn protests from other area pastors and the New Black Panther Party.
